Clear that Joshua would box on DAZN PPV (or whatever they call it) if they took over/bought BT.

I don’t see Frank hanging around on DAZN unless he gets the same amount of dates. ITV would be a good option for him with his current stable.

Lots of uncertainly in the months ahead.

Weird timing as I was seriously considering re-subscribing to BT mainly for the CL but to a lesser extent for the boxing, UFC, PL and MLB, any current subscribers think I should go ahead or wait and see what happens with this first ??

Remember when some were arguing BT was stealing market share from Sky.

The reality is BT paid over the odds for things like the CL but it didn't move the needle

This works out well for DAZN in the sense it they don't need to enter a bidding war to get rights and when the rights come up again there should be a market correction

I do wonder why Comcast don't buy BT Sport for Sky? They blow DAZN out of the water.

This is a chance for Sky to have total ownership of sports rights.

The only reason I can think of is that the Competition Markets Authority would probably turn down the deal.

I don't think that will happen but DAZN will likely do a deal with sky and virgin so DAZN will be avaliable via the set top box like netflix is.

Exactly that. That is why the premier league rights had to be split.

They want to make people stream. They may keep a channel but the prime sports will be on the DAZN app.

Obviously Frank and Matchroom aren't going to be on the same platform but the way to build up the audience for boxing would be to have boxing every Saturday. It's the only way to make viewers come back. Never going to happen though.

Once they realise the numbers real sports do then boxing is going to start taking a backseat again.

Remember when BT said BT sport would be free for BT broadband customers. That didn't last long at all.

I agree with this, but I think there is something else to add.

Sky have a huge loyalty now with many sports fans, with a big installed base who will stick with Sky for as long as they have the 'big' sport they love most - Premier League, Test cricket, F1, the golf majors, darts, etc.

Not only that, many people have a Sky package for their family, not just as sports fans. Even on here people some describe Fight Night cards as 'free to air', whereas BT Sport / BoxNation / DAZN / Box Office are always seen as a discretionary spend, even if the price is low.

Remember when Setanta Sports got the rights to England football matches, and fans at England away matches started chanting "f*** off Setanta'?

My view: unless someone else gets the majority of Premier League rights, Sky Sports will remain king.
