DAZN's first PPV is an odd selection to say the least...

Might this one be a US-only PPV, but free to subscribers in DAZN's other territories?

It would still stink. Granted, HBO charged a premium for Golovkin's bouts with Lemieux and Jacobs (which was questionable enough at the time), but those were both opponents known to the American audience. I struggle to believe they'd have put a bout with a largely anonymous Japanese on PPV, and it would've been a crumby move if they had.

 

Glad I canceled my subscription. Or maybe that’s why it’s PPV? Too many people dumped the service. Sorry guys.

 

I don't think boxing will ever take well to subscription based companies. The sport is just too inconsistent. You can have an entire year without an exciting big time fight. People are streaming more and more. They need to find a way to capture the younger audience who is streaming everything, and this is not it. Look at how Spotify was able to get people of all ages to pay for music again.

Bob Arum did everything you should do when promoting in Japan compared to UFC who still till this day have no clue on how you do big business in Japan.

 

lol i pay for dazn for premier league soccer and boxing cards but there whole purpose was no ppv's so goodluck wont be getting a dime out of me for any future "ppvs" they try to make

Guess they never got the number of subscribers needed to sustain the model. And COVID was a huge reason.

I'm not happy about it being ppv at all. If this one is ppv, then maybe the others GGG fights will be too. They have to keep it reasonable. They owe us the GGG fight , we already waited the entire year for him to fight.
