Yoshida is lunging again, walking into counter jabs as well as now straight right hand leads and even an uppercut off the ropes. Yoshida winging big overhands, missing. Metcalf circling and continuing to lob uppercuts, now landing just under the bosom. Daubing shots by Yoshida on the way in, unable to close the gap effectively, getting countered liberally.

Round 8

Yoshida spraying the water hose but Metcalf is staying dry. Same copy as in the previous round reports... rinse, repeat. Metcalf scoring jabs on the mush and armpit as Yoshida keeps overreaching and throwing with both hands at once on the advance. Yoshida does clobber her with a couple of right haymakers in the final ten seconds, but not enough to steal.

Round 9

Yoshida is throwing oil derrick shots from too far out, same as before. Metcalf is getting creative with her counter combinations. Straight right hand and left upper-hook lands for Metcalf. Yoshida still grazing with the occasional shotput overhand right barging in. Metcalf doing a good job outmaneuvering her for the most part, tying up when necessary. Yoshida busy but ineffective.

They keep calling the 39 year old Metcalf (with 12 wins, 4 losses and 1 draw) a "rising prospect", in contrast with the former champ Yoshida who is four years her junior.

 

Round 10

Yoshida is jabbing steadily, only for her left arm to be knocked away or disrupted by Metcalf's. Wild uppercutting sequences by Metcalf, missing as Yoshida hits the brakes and bends over. Yoshida touches Metcalf with some jabs and rights pinning her on the ropes, while Metcalf slaps down on her with counters with both hands.

10-9 Metcalf, close, almost nothing clean landed for either until the very end at the bell.

One commentator has it a draw, the other has it by a point for Metcalf (having given one round even, 10-10...I think maybe the 6th?)
