Just like Hines vs. Gruber, this one is an Ohio vs. Massachusetts match-up (in this case, Cincinnati and Lowell respectively).

It was originally scheduled for super featherweight but both came in overweight (Herring 131¾ lbs; Molina 131¼ lbs)

"Saint Nick" is 14 years younger and 3" shorter with 5" less wingspan than "Semper Fi".

 

Since being stopped by Shakur Stevenson a little over two years ago, Herring has fought just once: in May of last year, losing a ten round UD to Jamaine "The Technician" Ortiz.

Molina is 13-0 (5), taking a huge step up in class here. Huge featherfist, coming off a points victory over Adilmar Silva (the Brazilian glass cannon that JuanMa Lopez for instance kayoed a decade ago).

 

Half Herring's purse is being donated to veterans, to tie in with the "Heroes of the Hudson" theme on the week of Veteran's Day.

 

Round 1

Herring is scoring southpaw jabs on the face, already reddening Molina's eye. Herring with quick hard left crosses behind the jab, to head and body. Molina has a bloody nose. Herring starts to pick up the pace, more 1-2s. Molina down. Over a minute left on the clock. Molina circles and paws out a backhanded jab, looking terrified. Herring is stalking, locating the jab, holding the front arm in a sling by his side and the rear fist up to protect his chin. Another two-piece and Molina is down again with fifteen seconds to go. Artur Mercante waves it off.

TKO1!!!

 

Idk if the corner was going to be able to convince the kid to answer the bell for a second round anyway; he was crapping bricks in there.

 

The color commentator makes a weak argument that Mercante could have given Molina "the rest of the round" - yeah, so under 15 seconds, then? Not including the "give me your hands, are you okay to continue" time?

Same dude that made a braindead comment about the previous fight, that "when I heard the wide scorecards, I figured they had to, if anything be for Yoshida because she had the big crowd support" (and not, you know, the other woman that he actually himself scored the bout for)
