This is a fight between two of the best middleweights from the late 90's to early 2000's that just so happened to live in the same town and both fought under Don King. So odd that they never fought. I know this isn't the sexiest matchup but it does look interesting on paper and I don't recall ever seeing it on this forum before. Who do you like? The fast hands and combination punching of Joppy or the Tall and long Holmes that had an outstanding jab. Both were clearly a notch or two behind Hopkins but they were definitely good solid well schooled pro's.
I would have to agree. Holmes was very smart and had a very long reach for a MW. 77' reach and an excellent jab would make it difficult for the mich smaller Joppy to hey inside where he could let his hands fly with his fast combinations. Holmes wasn't shy about holding when a guy got inside on him. I see him taking a UD and fighting a very smart tactical fight. It's a shame Holmes didn't do more with his career. He was a pretty talented fighter.
