I'm not going to go into too much detail because I don't think this fight has as much on it as people think this close to fight-night.

A lot of great fighters have beaten the scale, moving up far above their best weight and winning titles. Who can forget Roberto Duran besting Iran Barkley, Roy Jones winning a heavyweight title with apparant ease, or the mountain of unconscious bodies that lay in Henry Armstrong's wake as he rampaged up through the divisions? Surely, possibly, historically, Manny Pacquiao, currently the pound-for-pound best fighter in the world, stands a chance against an older, faded and only part-time non-champion?

But sadly, no, he really doesn't. The reason for that is that styles make fights. I will list here why almost everything in this fight seems to work against the little Filipino Hercules.

For one, he is a definite pressure fighter. It's nearly always better to be a slickster in these cases, as then your specialty is amplified because of the greater difference in speed and reaction, instead of nullified because the bigger man can take your punches better then you can take his.

Two, his biggest liability is how open he is to punches. He's made some headway here, bobbing, weaving, in-and-out movement, but this area of his game is not as supreme as others.

Three, his opponent is a southpaw fighting rightie. He has a monstrous left hook that in all expectation should stun Manny every timeit lands, compounded by a great jab to set it up with, perfect for controlling a smaller fighter. Manny will have to face these attributes any time he wants to get inside, and for all intents and purposes, it's like standing at the gate of Carthage.

Four, his opponent has decent handspeed and excellent coordination for the weight and his age.

Lastly, his opponent has throughout his career shown to be an excellent finisher when he has his man hurt or stunned.

Now, Manny Pacquiao has shown a tremendous will to win throughout his career, and I don't exclude that he hears the final bell and will lose a semi-big decision. But there is no way in hell he wins this fight. No way in hell.

I have put 10k euros on a DLH victory at -185.

I would never bet that much on a boxing match purely because of how subjective the scoring is, and a robbery could easily occur, or the match could be fixed.

And FWIW, how could a skinny kid who drops his hands and leans back from the hook avoid the left hooks of the most feared champion in HW history, after being dropped by inferior left hooks from the likes of Cooper and Banks? He won't survive the pressure, and his style is just far too vulnerable. He'll get knocked out early.

Bloody Cassius Clay running his mouth off again, his self-promotion won't save him in the ring!

    ...

It's easy to say in hindsight that this is totally wrong, but at the time it seemed logical, and everyone believed it. After the match we could all be sitting here saying, "how couldn't we see that Pacquiao's handspeed and in-and-out movements would give Oscar fits?" Boxing is a funny sport, anything can happen.

DLH has too many attributes -- reach, an excellent jab, his left hook (against a southpaw(!) to not land his share of punches. I think Manny will look really good in there for the early goings, but he'll be stunned and hurt sooner or later.

As long as Oscar does not tire after 6rds, I see him stopping Pac in 10.

Well, good, because he usually tires after round 9. But honestly, he looks to be in his best shape since fighting at 147.

I think he's taking his training seriously. And Nacho Berenstain trains for endurance and resistance. Stamina included.

This is the problem with my predictions. They're often accurate but very much boring and vanilla.

  9. I Have to agree in think Oscar stops him in 8, Manny ate right hands like candy in the Marquez fight, he won't be able to do that for to long in this fight..:smoke
Oscar has to much size, a good chin, good power, left hook jab, and will cut off the ring and fight from angles Paq has never seen before, and i just don't see a guy who started out as a flyweight and who was beaten by erik morales, beating GOLDIE..:-(

I think that Oscar De la hoya will KO Manny Pacquiao in the 5th round will his signature left hook, cause Manny has never faced anyone as strong as De la Hoya and he will not be able to handle Oscar's punches

DLH fans should be ashamed of this fight.

Did a converter and that is $12,840.. You are nuts but have huge stones.

The more I think about it the more I'm convinced DLH should win. Only if he listens to Nacho and just reacts to whatever Pac does like he said he would in Mario Lopez's interviews. I see DLH possibly losing the first few rounds before Nacho lights a fire under his ass and DLH begins to listen to instruction.

Even if DLH is in good shape in the late rounds the fight may be taken away from him by the judges. Getting cute and trying to box to a decision has always done DLH in. Let's hope he doesn't.

Another DLH by mid TKO. I'd really love to see Pac win just for the fight taking place.

I think Pacman will look good and have his moments in the first 4 or 5 rounds. After that the difference in size, strength, power, and yes boxing skill, will start to take its toll. Oscar stops Pac in 7 or 8.

I've always been an Oscar fan, and I can't think of a good thing to say about it really. He's taking cherry-picking to the next level in his old age. But then again, I don't feel sorry for Manny, and I don't feel sorry for the fans, as I suspect they'll both get what they came for. It's just that...DLH said after Floyd refused to stand his ground with him, he wanted wars, but instead of going after Paul Williams and Margarito, he's looking for Pac and Hatton. That ain't right.

Oscar's faced all the best fighters, so I'm prepared to give him a lot of leeway, but Manny Pac was a step too far imo. Lost a lot of respect with me.
