Were fans talking about this fight the same way they are about De La Hoya-Pacquiao? Hopkins was a big middleweight (who became the light-heavyweight champion) fighting a natural welterweight who started out at 130 lbs.

I'm not trying to justify Oscar's choice in fighting the much smaller Pacquiao, but I wasn't a boxing fan when Oscar and Bernard fought and was just wondering.

NOthing like this. Bernard was an overwhelming favorite but no one was callng the fight a disgrace or a circus show or anything else along those lines like with this one.

This fight is a disgrace, Hopkins De La Hoya was fair, this sin't.

**** this bout. And **** Oscar for backing out like a bicth against Marga. ****ing cherry-picker.

I hope Pacman KO's him in the first round. Won't happen, but I'm hoping.

Interesting. I wonder why this fight is treated differently.

What makes that fight any more fair than this one?

First off, Hoya didn't start out at 130, he started off at 135. Second, Hoya had been fighting for years at 154 before this bout and even had one fight at 160. Third, the fight was at a contracted weight of 158(Hopkins weighed in at 156, Hoya at 155). If Pac had been fighting at 140 for a couple of years, fought at 147 at for one fight and then fought Oscar at a catchweight of 145, the fight wouldn't be criticised anywhere near as much as it is currently.

good question. looking at the size, it looks like hopkins is almost double the size of hoya. i did catch this fight in tv when i was younger and even then i can tell that hoya is really stretching it out to fight hopkins. the only consolation for oscar then was when the commentator said that hopkins at that time is on the verge of retirement (LMAO now ) and oscar is at his peak.

The De La Hoya/Hopkins fight should've never come off either, but it wasn't as bad as this.

He didn't start off at 130. He started off at 135, and dropped down to 130 for two fights in order to pick up crap title and defend it once.

the difference is that manny is fighting oscar and going up to meet him. People on this forum realise oscar will probably wreck him, and because its oscar, people on this forum are pissed...I have noticed most people hate oscar on this forum...infact, people seem to hate almost every fighter who isnt named David Haye, Antonio Margarito, or Manny pac.

DLH was at 154 for years before the Hopkins fight and then he had a tune up at 160 against Sturm.

Pac had one fight at 135 and now is jumping up to 147.

That would be the exact equivilent of DLH having one fight at 160 and then jumping to 175.
