De La Hoya...How does he keep up the farce?

Mayweather is the one who sold the fight on HBO's 24-7.......
....that fight did a million more buys than any other DLH fight, which includes the Trinidad fight.
....thats not DLH selling it, its Mayweather selling it.


DLH comes out and says that he's giving back to the boxing fan by showing his fight against Steve Forbes on free HBO....:rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl thats insanely hillarious.....are you kidding me?
If that Forbes fight went on PPV, DLH would undoubtedly be embarrassed by the numbers!
......DLH is giving jack **** to the boxing fan as he's been spinning it with the media....that Forbes fight has nowhere else to go but free HBO.
If DLH did'nt have such a relationship with HBO, were talking an ESPN fight against Forbes!

 

And as even HBO pointed out during one of the countdowns (Mayorga, I think?), Oscar draws a large female demographic as well.

 

The answer is easy as to how he became such a huge phenomenon. He came onto the scene at the same time the mexican american population became a huge force on the US economic scene. There were mexican stars before but not mexican american ones. They clung to their guy ever since. Oh yeah, being a six division champ doesn't hurt either.

His resume is amongst the best.
He hasn't ducked anyone, even went up a few divisions to fight a legend.
Fought many greats won or held his own well.
Fought the current best, and did better than most thought he would.
Will rematch Floyd late this year.

Most of his losses were very close fights and split decision losses. Its not like he got KTFO 5 times in a row. He was also never beaten by a major underdog. All of those fights he lost were atleast 50-50 fights.


People like him, they like his image. Hes a good bullshitter. He got busted with that prostitute and he completely downplayed the whole thing and got many people to think it was fake.

 

Remember his following started when he came back from Barcelona with a gold medal, the only to do this for the USA boxing team. So the hype started from there.
