De La Hoya: I wanted him to 'knock me out'

Very true, I remember thinking "stop the fight" at the moment they did.

 

Perhaps Oscar just doesn't have what it takes any more. It's quite sad being a De La Hoya fan really.

 

Oscar had a off night physically (well, bad physical preparation) and couldn't grit his way through it. This just shows he quit mentally way before he stayed on his stool. To me that underlines the fact that he should retire far more than his actual performance did.

 

He had a great career and ducked practically no one. Nothing at all to be ashamed of, minus the fishnet pics and the pop star years.

Just because his run as an elite fighter is done doesn't mean he necessarily has to retire. I think the Chavez Jr. fight could be a decent bout, and even if he fought hard in a losing effort, he'd endear himself to some of the Mexican fans he never won over. It would be a heck of a way to bookend a career, win over old father, win over young son.

Why not? Let's face it, love him or hate him... he was the biggest thing going in this game for a long time,,, and that's a pretty lousy way to go out for a superstar boxer (a rare breed in this day and age)

He was physically shot that night... he had nothing there to even make a good scap and go out on his shield. He's got to have at least one more go,,, with a beatable guy at 154. He's gotta go out with win, or at least a strong showing. He's the golden boy for fuc sakes! It good for buisness.

Oscar was brilliant in his prime, but even the best boxers/fighters have to know when their time is over...he's shot and hopefully he thinks that himself.

After the beating DLH took in this fight i guess he wanted the nightmare to end.

 

It's difficult to say yet. The weight (on fight night) played a factor in my opinion but unless he continues his career at a more natural weight it's hard to tell whether he is 'shot'.

 

The **** are you talking about? "Fair fight"? He was contracted to make 147, but going by his failure to rehydrate, he couldn't make the weight correctly. You actually think he weighed 147 on fight night out of the goodness of his heart? Did he also bake Manny a cake and promise not to hit him too hard?

Nobody "knows" he's shot, but going by the fact that David Diaz was more competitive than him against Pacquiao, I know he is barely a shadow of what he used to be. He's definitely done at 147, and he probably should steer way clear of real threats at 154.
