De La Hoya: I wanted him to 'knock me out'

You forgot biting both your opponents ears to quit, that's about as shameful as it gets.

McCall V Lewis was another odd one, but he was mentally unstable so not sure where to rank that quittage.

 

Yes he would have gone back out and fought - but he didn't want to fight otherwise he'd have been arguing like hell in that corner when they were telling him they were going to pull him out. He's too proud to say "I've had enough", the words weren't forthcoming. However the words "don't you ****ing dare stop this fight" weren't exactly forthcoming either.

It's no big deal to me but when you consider the weight drain problems he had, and the stuff that's happened in the past with the likes of McClellan.....I'd say Oscar was wise to err on the side of caution and I don't hold it against him. Something bad could have happened if he'd carried on taking that kind of beating much longer, and I suspect he felt it himself otherwise he'd have kicked up a massive stink at his corner because that's the kind of guy he is.

 

Agreed on the first one, it slipped my mind. That was awful.:-( Andrew Golota as well.

I don't really consider McCall a quitter. I just think that he was completely ****ed in the head and unfit to be in the ring. Lewis boxing his ears off didn't help matters either. A mentally stable grown man just doesn't act like that.

 

Lewis - McCall II is one of the oddest things in boxing, period.

 

That's what I saw too, they gave him plenty of chances to tell them to **** off and he said nothing.

 

I actually felt sorry for Golota when he quit against Tyson, he had some pretty bad injuries after that fight as I recall, a herniated disc in his neck springs to mind but I might be wrong, sure he had a fractured cheek-bone too. Jose Torres wrote a piece on it telling people to lay off him, and when Jose spoke, I listened. I think that was the last time we ever saw a decent version of Mike Tyson in a boxing ring, and I still felt if it had gone a few more rounds Golota would have won - watch it again, Golota was coming into that fight for me and I give him the benefit of the doubt, he must have been in pain.

As for McCall, he was mentally unstable his whole damn career - he fought like he didn't give a **** for 9 rounds against Bruno too as I recall :huh

DLH is fake ...

He agreed that the fight should be stopped ... they asked him should the fight be stopped and he nodded yes.

He was on the verge of getting knocked out or a ref stoppage because he was in bad shape.

This guy is a phony !!

He got taken the distance against a light punching - natural lightweight in Steve Forbes ... hell ... he was a ****in middleweight for crying out loud ... there was no way that he shouldve been stopped by Pacquiao ... but he can't pull the trigger no more - he shouldve accepted that.

He was affraid that he was going to get knocked out and this was just a ploy by him to see if he had some fan support.

 

I watched that the other day. McCall was crying during his ring walk.

It was sick seeing McCall put his arms at his side and Lennox unloaded a flush punch and McCall just shook his head and tried to walk around.

 

That's your fault...when it comes to Golota you have to be specific

He was an idiot against Bowe, I never saw that as quitting personally, I just think Golota was a mean ******* who let the red mist get the better of him. I don't think he quit against Bowe he just wanted to hurt the guy any way he could, seen plenty of fighters like that over the years. Golota gets a bad rep as far as quitting is concerned which is why I wrote that bit on the Tyson fight.

 

I'm no DLH lover but he's definately not a 'phony', not in the slightest. He's given us good entertainment over the years and like a lot of fighters his last fight was a horrible one. Pernell Whittaker springs to mind, was he a 'phony' too? You can't beat father time, shame so few fighters actually realise this, they just HAVE to have it proven to them.

 

McCall cried during his ring walk for most of his fights, he did it in the first Lewis fight which he won...it wasn't unusual.

 

I personally felt that the Bowe fight was getting tough for him, so he found a way out by low blowing him. He knew that he was going to get DQ'd for it... BOTH TIMES! I also felt that he quit against Grant, as he was mentally ****ed after he didn't put Grant away from the early knockdowns. Golota actually told the ref that he as finished in that one too. He wasn't taking some horrible beating or anything. He was just mentally broken. Even though that's a hard thing to believe when talking about Golota.

 

Wow! Look at the 2:02 mark of this fight! Oscar's muther****en falling over without anyone hitting him. Just walking is too much for him. I never noticed that before. What the hell happened to this guy that night? :-(

 

Golota lacks balls.
