"Let me put it this way, the only way Floyd is going to be talked about among the best, he has to keep fighting the best, and he has to knock out some of the best, starting with Juan Manuel Marquez,".

"He has to make a statement. He has to do something that no one has ever done, ever in Marquez's career, and that's knock him out. The you can say, "Oh boy, here we go. We're watching a great fighter in the making and there's no doubt about it".

"But he has to knock out Marquez. He has to make a statement because Marquez fought Pacquiao twice and Marquez, in my mind, beat him. But Pacquiao couldn't knock him out. If Mayweather can make that statement knock out Marquez and go after him, that's - you know, "Hello world, here I am. I'm the greatest!".

Its the other way around, marquez has to knock out floyd to win. He can't defeat floyd by decision.

I think the point Oscar is trying to make is a valid one.

Taking the smaller Marquez to a decision isn't good enough, he needs to make a statement by knocking him out - something no one has ever been able to do.

It is a must for him. Defeating JMM by decision, specially if close or split, would not help floyd having an edge in the bargaining table for a possible fight pac.

I don't think he HAS to KO Marquez but I can't disagree with some of what DLH is saying. This is a fight where Mayweather has to make a statement in and that's where the pressure comes from. Sadly, Mayweather's style doesn't rely on KO'ing opponents, it's all about schooling/outscoring and if a KO comes then it comes. One thing can't be denied, there's way too much pressure on Mayweather in this one coming 2 years off simply because of what Pac has done in his last two fights. He knows that if he doesn't look good in this one Pac and co., like DLH did, will demand more money to make the fight based on how THEY perform against Cotto as well..

If Mayweather goes in there and keeps "making a statement" as his main goal then a loss is very possible. Marquez is not the type that will sit for anyone to make a statement out of.

I happen to like Oscar, unlike a lot of ESB regulars but nothing he says as a promoter is any less full of horse turds than what any other promoter says. You can't trust that he believes anything he's saying. This is promoter Oscar. Might as well be a character he's playing. But it's his job as a promoter.

He promotes the guy, you expect him to go out and say he lost?, that's not what he's paid for.

I advise you to accept the reality that scoring fight is not an exact science, and therefore De La Hoya is entitled to a differing opinion to that of the three judges.

In any event, many ringside observers had Marquez ahead in the second fight with Pacquiao. There is substance to his opinion.

Is Pac fighting Marquez or Floyd? Why is his name being mentioned in a Floyd Marquez fight?:hi: Pac won by SD. The other fight was a draw. Deal w/ it. :hi:

Oscar is right about Floyd needing to actually like beat the best guys in his weight division at least, but personally I hope Marquez comes in and fugs Floyd up, Marquez is a topline fighter himself but yeah Floyd holds all the cards really, even if Marquez is very strong at 147 its gonna be very tough for him to win.
