I've just watched the two fights between these two.

Given the controversy over the scoring in 2nd fight how come this never came about circa 03-08? Can anybody fill me in?

I think sometimes when 2 fights lack knockouts people figure that having a third fight will be another 12 round decision, and that is not enough motivation or money to set up a third fight.

Mosley wanted a bigger split of the purse for a third bout than what De La Hoya was offering. So instead he was said to be ready to fight Mayorga, but Mayorga lost to Spinks at the end of 03'. So he fought Wright instead.

    Yep.

Most foolish move ever made by Mosley. He would have gotten a career high payday for a third fight with DLH. He would have, IMHO, won the third fight very comvincingly.

He was still gun shy from the Forrest fight, and it wasn't until the later rounds that Mosley really got going in the DLH rematch.

So instead of getting a career high payday against a guy he'd have most likely looked brilliant against, he gave Winky the opportunity that allowed him on the inner circle. Terrible decision on Shane's part.

While I agree it was terrible, it shows that Mosley unlike alot of fighters has an unwavering belief in his abilities that he'd consistently put it on the line.

A Shame he never faced Trinidad, courtesy of Winky Wright.

A Tito-Mosley fight would have been nice.

Shane clearly isn't a calculating career strategist. He just wanted to prove himself as the best, and put that above money. If only more thought like him, we'd have a more exciting and popular sport.

I agree. If he thought like a business man he wouldnt have the resume he does which is pretty impressive. The guy had balls and was simply asking for a reasonable split of the purse. DLH lost two fights, was very angry about that and was trying to punish mosley's pocketbook in a way that he couldnt in the ring. Instead Mosely told him to go to hell and fought Wright back to back. Sure he lost but Wright was a tough proposition at that point for anyone and was also a guy that DLH had ducked forever (not at all unlike Forrest).

Thanks for the input folks, interesting stuff

I remember Larry Merchant on commentary during one of Shane's recent fights saying something like he passed up $10m against DLH and fought Winky for $2m instead.

Mosley with the belts and being the draw wanted 51% and not a penny less, Delahoya was the ticket seller and wasnt having it. DLH made a deal with Hopkins to get 70% of the purse in a MW showdown and to fight Sturm in the interim. Blame who you want but both were up for it

Hell ya it would!!! Two fighters Im a fan of going at it. I like Mosley more but would cheer for both of them in that explosive matchup. Why did you have to beat Tito, Winky?

PED use aside, Mosley-De La Hoya 2 is a really, really, really exaggerated "robbery". It was a close fight with a lot of close rounds. And Compubox means **** all.
