I like old Oscar but I have to say I think it is pretty poor the way he explained how the fight was stopped and wishing he could be knocked out. I have been a boxing fan for 35 years and I have never heard a Fighter say this. I read the article yesterday and I was really just disappointed in DLH. We need Champions who do not make up excuses and are humble in there defeats as well as there wins. Guys like Carmen Basilio and Joe Louis stand out in my mind.
It already showed in the diaz fight that pacman's punching power is not as hard like it was at 130 and below. It took him 9 rounds to take out diaz and he landed a lot of power shots. But he still have the speed which is his biggest advantage going up in weight. Look at what mosley did to margarito with his speed. Margo has a good chin but mosley landed so many power shots that broke dowm margarito and eventually knock him out. Pacman can do the same with his speed. :good
Pacquiao's style changed considerably as shown in his fight with David Diaz . Prior to that fight he was a predictable, one-dimensional boxer who used his trademark lunging straight left at every opportunity. Now that he's proficient with his right hand, he no longer relies solely on his straight left. Maybe that's why it took him so long to KO Diaz. He wanted to prove to everyone that both hands are lethal. If Manny's power lessened due to age, it doesn't explain how his blistering speed managed to stay intact. The perceived diminishment of Manny's knockout power is just a result of a stylistic change in his boxing. His offense has become complete because of that change.
funniest **** i've read today. so hoya wanted to be knocked out? then why the hell did he quit? he could have stayed and fought for four more rounds if he really wanted to be knocked out. man, this is getting silly. hoya is a little ***** trying to save face. the problem is that it's not selling to anyone
I get the sense that Oscar is telling the truth in that he believes that Pac wasn't hitting him that hard. Part of it is due to the fact that Oscar's naturally the much bigger man and has fought against guys with much better power. However I also think part of it was due to Pac not completely sitting down on his punches like he has in his prior fights. Pac's fight plan was to land the lead left then turn Oscar and reset so that he would limit himself from taking major risks. He was very disaplined with his execution and consequently never really threw his hardest punch and never really needed to. I think against Hatton we'll see Pac take more chances and once again display his full power.
I definitely think Oscar is telling the truth when he says Pac wasn't hitting him that hard. When you can land flush shots at will and the guy stays on his feet, you clearly aren't a big puncher at that weight.
When he says Pac "wasnt' hitting him that hard" - he's talking about from behind in the hotel after the fight.
