No Trinidad fought the Whitaker that you speak of. Pernell was champ when Oscar fought him. The Whitaker Oscar beats Mayweather Jr.
People act like this was a close fight when Mayweather outlanded Oscar by 2 to 1 People say 'a 24yo Hoya would do better'. But a fight at 147 suits Floyd more, he had no business at 154 and was vastly undersized, 24yo Oscar doesnt have the same size advantage. A more 1 handed Oscar puts Hoya at a disadvantage, a 28-29 Floyd was a tad faster than the 30your version too
And Oscar was champ when Mayweather beat him. Doesn't mean he wasn't well past his best. And Mayweather would have definitely beat that version of Sweet Pea. Sweet Pea needed a TKO to save his ass from getting schooled by Hurtado.
Early on Oscar fought a very good fight against Whitaker imo, infact his right hands was very effective in the fight. The problem with DLH imo, is that he had periods in fights when he fell asleep behind the wheel, he would fall into that sleepwalker/stalker mode and starting dancing to the opponents tune, I mean, where was he for the first how many rounds of the Quartey fight, where was he in the latter part of the Whitaker fight, where was he in parts of the Oba Carr fight, or the Trinidad fight ? I dont think Dela Hoya fought with the same consistency throughout a 12 round fight, there was always periods where he switched off imo. I think its a much closer fight, but Mayweather takes advantage of his robot stalker style by using his legs, offsetting him with lateral movement, attacking off the angles.
We dont know if mayweather WOULD HAVE beat that version of Whitaker. The fight didnt happen. Hurtado was a very awkward fighter, and the end result is....Pernell knocked his ass out. It just sounded like your taking something away from Oscar. Pernell that fought Oscar still had plenty to offer any fighter at 147 at the time, why, because he was that good in his prime. You brang up Whitakers cocaine habit. When Pernell fought Trinidad is when Whitaker had just gotten out of rehab for cocaine abuse. The Pernell that fought Oscar was still a great fighter and was champ. The one that Trinidad fought was well past it and a former shell of himself.
Fair enough, it's just my opinion. In case you didn't notice, you did the exact same thing in your post
I did it because the thread asked of it.Whats your excuse.
I did it because the thread asked of it.Whats your excuse.
WTF? You gave out to me for saying somebody would beat somebody like it was a fact, thats exactly what you did. What does it matter who asked for it?
WTF? You gave out to me for saying somebody would beat somebody like it was a fact, thats exactly what you did. What does it matter who asked for it?
The only reason i said anything to you was because of what you said about Oscar fighting an over the hill Whitaker.I realy didnt know why you brang that up. Seemed like a dig towards Oscar. So i simply replied about the fact that Trinidad was the one who fought the worst version of Pernell. Oscar fought the welter weight champ in his first fight at welter, and it happened to be Whitaker.I think De La Hoya deserves some credit for that. The guy did fight every body,so yes there will be some fighters he fights that are on the decline.Sweet pea happened to still have some of his skills left IMO. I know its only my opinion when i say the Oscar that fought Pernell would beat the Mayweather Jr that Oscar fought,or Mayweather at the time Pernell fought Oscar.Wasn't try'n to push it as a fact. My point is that Whitaker at the time he fought Oscar, would give any fighter at welter fits IMO.So it seemed that it could only be a dig towards Oscar's accomplishment when i read your post, which led me to respond to it. Cheers man,no hard feelings.
Oscar in a comfortable decision. He took Floyd to an SD when he was over the hill. It isn't rocket science.
