you can thank 24/7 and mayweathers **** talking on 24/7 for those figures. makes the story more interesting when theres a villain involved and therefore i think is what contributed to the payper view sales. Oh and lets not forget to mention they were/are two of the best boxers of this era.
Back in the Tyson, Holyfield, Prime Oscar era, there were things called "hotboxes". Illegal cable boxes where everyone I pretty much knew had one, and watched ppv fights for free. Now we are in the digital age where those boxes dont exist anymore, and everyone has to pay to see these fights now. Had it not been for those illegal boxes, Tyson would hold the PPV title till the end of time!
I remember they used to sell the chipped access cards for direct tv that would unlock every single channel. Dont know if it allowed access to ppv. If those were still available id get one in a heartbeat but i had heard that direct tv frys the access cards remotely.
I live in NYC, and back then, cable was run on an analog signal which was easy to bypass and get all the premium channels for free including all ppv events. I had a box for 6yrs that I paid $250 for. Best investment I ever made!
It's funny how before DLH made Mayweather a mega star, Mayweather couldn't draw **** to flies. Same with Pacquiao. :deal
Mayweather Promotions isnt even a real boxing promotional company. They dont have a promoters license. That's why they use GBP to "co-promote"
Yea...but DLH also had the biggest PPV event in history. While Tyson did come out with the better average DLH has got the better numbers. He's got more units and the record for the most successful PPV event.
I thought it was a legit promotional company then i hear mayweather has tax troubles and signs with gbp for a couple of fights??(correct me if im wrong)From what i hear he doesnt like oscar too much so why do business with him??I would figure he would go to 50 cent if he had money troubles.
But you are also talking about HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONS! They automatically generate more numbers just on them being the big boys. Especially back in Mikes Day...the HW divison was the ****. No one would have ever thought that a guy in the lower weight classes could compete with HW fighters yet DLH crossed over....on a scale that is hard to fathom.
I don't think that Floyd or PAC have eclipsed DLH in popularity in the US. That's gonna be a tough cookie to crack. DLH had a LEGION of US fans...hardcore and casual that crossed over very easy for him. PAC and Floyd aren't quite in that boat yet. The averages can be misleading.
It is a real promotional company, and he's actually promoted a concerts for certain high profile artists, but as far as being a boxing promoter goes, he's not licensed to operate. Dont know the details as to why he hasnt been granted a license yet, all I know is that he doesnt have one and uses GBP to promote all his fights. It also probably has something to do with taking a $10mil advance/loan from Oscar prior to his Marquez bout. I think the deal was for Oscar to promote/co-promote all of Floyd's future bouts.
