Providing an alternative to the pay-per-view tag typical of his fights, Oscar De La Hoya said his next bout on May 3 will be on ``free television.''

''We should return to our roots and that our fights be televised on free television,'' De La Hoya said recently. ``I believe our fans deserve it and I expect other fighters make the same decision.''

However, De La Hoya's ''free television'' is subject to interpretation.

True, viewers won't have to spend the customary $49 to $55 typical of a De La Hoya fight. But the bout against an opponent to be named will be on HBO, albeit during a ''free weekend'' promotion by the pay cable network

We should all be so honored that the greatest fighter on the planet, Oscar De La Hoya is blessing us by putting his fight against a contender loser on regular HBO. The reason Oscar did this is so that his next PPV will be a bigger attraction. Nothing else. Oscar could care less about the fans.. he's not the good-guy promoter that the boxing media a lot of times makes him out to be. He's the same as every other promoter. Most of the GBP PPV cards from 2007 were horrible ripoffs. The undercards for the big fights were pathetic. DLH-PBF 2 is an insult to boxing and would only damage the sport.

I say, boycott Oscar-Forbes and make DLH think he's no longer a draw. Ah.. who am I kidding, there would probably be more people at my house for Oscar-Forbes than Calzaghe-Dawson. :-( Damn DLH and his ridiculous drawing power.

Will the fans deserve free tv when DLH fights mayweather or is just because he knows it won't do sales against forbes on PPV. I think we all know the answer to that

No - I doubt is anyone would pay for this - but this is good for Boxing and for Oscar.

To put this on Totally Free is still not the case - you'll still have to have cable to see this. But - it's Great is you're a Boxing Fan. Not only do you get Boxing Biggest Attraction to fight on a Free Preview Weekend - but it's also a Hype Job for the Mayweather/DLH 2.

It will keep Oscar busy and active - while getting ready for Mayweather.

I think it's good for the Sport - the Network - the Fans - and GBP.

It's not really the fighters fault that their fights are not on network TV. There is just not enough demand for boxing to make the networks want to carry it.

If he wants to do boxing a favor, maybe he shouldn't tie up Mayweather for '08 and actually encourage the Cotto/Floyd fight to be made. He can fight Wright and he can have Mosley fight Margarito or Williams. Put all 3 fights on the same card and show it on HBO for no additional cost but the monthly HBO charge. Back to your roots huh Oscar.....Shut the **** up!

What a guy Oscar is. He's going to let his fans that have cable watch him fight a guy who is absolutely no threat at all. A guy who is 2 weight classes lower than him that has absolutely no power, even at the 140 lb. level. This is no fight, it's a sparring exhibition at best that will have Oscar dominating and ko forbes at will. This fight is a bigger joke than the Campas fight. It will be a fight that will will make Oscar look like a world beater fighting a guy like Forbes when in reality Oscar has lost 4 out of his last 5 fights against top competition. A gimme for Oscar, and his nuthuggers will be dancing in the streets, waving their fishnets and screaming "giddy-up Oscar". Oscar will come riding down the streets riding his white horse, waving to his "fans" and in his high-pitched ***gy voice yell to them saying "boy, I pack quite a wallop!"
Yeah, what a guy Oscar is.
