Chavez was a 34 year old current Champ when Oscar beat him.
Whitaker was a 33 year old current Champ when Oscar fought him.
Past prime? Probably not at their absolute peak, but still on top of their divisions and Oscar moved UP in weight to fight them. Also, consider how young Oscar was taking on these experienced ATG Champs.

Genaro was 29 years old and undefeated. I guess that is past prime in your book? :huh Genaro went on to beat Azuma Nelson and become the WBC Champ. He held that title up until he lost to Floyd Mayweather Jr 4 years after Oscar had beaten him.

Gatti was 29 years old, and Oscar beat him before the great trilogy with Ward... Gatti also went on to win the WBC title after Oscar beat him... which he held until he lost to Floyd Maweather Jr 4 years after Oscar had beaten him.

See a pattern there?

Vargas was a 24 year old WBA Champ. FFS, what constitutes prime with you? There has never been a better version of Fernando Vargas than the Roided up monster that Oscar beat.

Mayorga is the same age as Oscar... and was also the WBC Champ when Oscar beat him.

Let alone the other great prime fighters that Oscar fought. You should probably think your posts through just a little bit more.

Whitaker punked Oscar and went home and did a line.

Yeah Whitaker was firing on all cylinders going into the Oscar fight. :roll:

 

Are you blind, or did you just not watch the fight? First of all, it wasn't a straight left... second... Oscar never went on his "ass" like you said before.

Oscar was moving forward with an attack... Whitaker landed a grazing left hook, then an incredibly weak left hook while pulling down on Oscar's left arm, Oscar's slipped forward and touched his right glove on the canvas to gain his balance... nothing else touched the canvas and his glove was down for about half a second. This is the amazing knockdown that you are going on about?

 

You could say the DLH fight was as an example of an aging, declined champ putting on that one last great performance, as Cus D'amato said. Pea looked much better than he had in previous bouts with Rivera and Hurtado.

Maybe he trained harder and partied less for that bout.

Give Oscar his due. He beat Whitaker clearly on that fight.

Please at best people see this fight as 50/50. I think most favor Whitaker. Whitaker certainly looked the better man landing more punches at a higher percentage.

 

Without a doubt.:good In no way can Oscar's win be considered a "robbery" even if you didn't think he clearly won. Robberies don't come from close fights.

Oscar fought Ike, Tito, and Mosley in their primes aside from tough respectable fighters like Ruelas and Carr.

 

He also fought Whitaker, Camacho and Chavez sr. Not only past their prime but smaller men past their best weights.
