fighting for mexican cred can bring out some serious machismo, props to both, but yeah that Vargas/Trinidad was epic fo sho
Damn. I remember this fight so vividly watching it during my senior year of high school. Hard to believe it's been 8 years! I've never been a Hoya fan but it was satisfying to see him knock Vargas out, who was such an during the buildup.
You know whats funny about Oscar? Fighters and "fans" say he's not a real Mexican, hes a *****, has no heart...then these ****ing fighters take steroids to fight him. Yeah, such a ***** that you had to take roids huh? DLH was/is the truth.
very sissapointed to see vargas not even talk after the fight. be a man and ature and admit you were bested. he just acted like a *****. ah well . de la hoya was very benelovent during the post fight interview
DLH unlike some other fighters took on the biggest names at the time they were in their *prime* never ducking anybody, win or lose he was good for boxing, and people who say he is not a real Mexican, well he is not, he is An American citizen of Mexican Ancestry thats all, remember he was repping USA in the olypmics, and we are glad to have him as an American :good DLH gets alot of flack now, but at the end of the day he did what alot of ****ers dont have the sack to do now, and that includes Mayweather. DLH took the dudes on in their prime......never ducked, never gave excuses......If the fans wanted it, and it was a challenge he did it risky or not. He deserves the success he has now. All the haters are jealous and can suck it,. :hi:
glad to read such responces. true boxing fans. oscar punished the kid that was bad mouthing him for so long. Vargas even got wwf on friday night fights and took his shirt off boasting what a warrior he is and that mexicans never get a body like his. ( he got caught for his roids).. Oscar gave him a lesson..in respect and a lesson in boxing. He fractured fernando's cheekbone in that pummeling. Oscar was always a great fighter..embraced by both America and Mexico.
He showed his heritage from when the music started and he came to the ring all the way to him showing warrior spirit and great skill in the ring.
Vargas was a warrior, he fought with intensity, he is also a really nice guy.... I got to meet him and take photos on Saturday if Last Week in Lindsay, California Meelet at McDermott he was promoting fights there. Thought, he looks alittle bit more like Chris Arreola then the Vargas we saw in that fight against DeLaHoya
Both these men were willing to go to hell and back just to have the win over the other. Vargas knew he was going to get caught but it was a small price to pay for revenge on DLH. As for the fight itself, its one of my top 10 all-time favorite fights. The hype, the aftermath and the fight itself more than met the expectations. This was the last fight that 2 elite fighters trully hated each other with a passion.
I remember that DLH was on the Jay Leno show the week after and offered an olive branch to Vargas. He didnt blame Vargas but blamed Vargas's team in that he was surrounded with horrible individuals and that he wanted to help him.
spoiler alert. you can almost hear how much larry merchant don't like oscar in this. .... I like larry...but eat it bro. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sk1RpzUA0nk[/ame]
