I wish this fight would have happened, but who do you think would have won this fight back then?

I think Forrest would have messed Oscar up. He had a lot of trouble with guys who had good jabs like Whitaker and Quartey, even though Oscar had physical advantages over both (more so with Whitaker, obviously) and Quartey was rather predictable at times.

Imagine a great jabber who has massive physical advantages over Oscar, and can drop a bg right on him whenever Oscar is short with his bread and butter left hook. Even the threat of that might make Oscar hesitant with his left, and he definitely cannot win a fight with Forrest with his right.

I actually think it woulda been a really close fight, and a late DLH stoppage isnt outta the question. And I'm the biggest Oscar hater on Earth. But DLH matches up better with Vern then Mosley did. Forrest would give DLH hell with his jab, and would nail DLH with some good right hands, but DLH had an excellent jab himself to keep it close. The reason I say DLH could stop him is because in the late exchanges I could see Oscar getting in his hook which Forrest never sees, and knocking Forrest out. However, if it did go to the cards... I think it would be a close fight either way, with DLH probably getting the nod on his star power.

This is of course considering prime for prime. So the 98-99 DLH vs the 01-02 Forrest.

Good point im comparing Oscar 02 to Forrest 02 , DLH 99 makes this fight very interesting , id still lean towards to Vernon , but an Oscar stoppage would certainly not be out of the equation ........

I agree. It's anyone's fight. It would have been a great fight. But I really can't say who wins this one. I don't think as a poster above said that Hoya would be controlled by Vernon's jab. But it would be a question of who established their jab first, it's just as possible that Oscar controls Vernon with his own jab. As to Vernon's right hand, yes it would be a big factor, but Vernon does not have Mosley's speed, so it wouldn't be as big a factor as some think. Size and reach advantage is a big deal here and that goes to Vernon. Speed and power goes to DLH.

Oscar could always KO him like Mayorga. But I think Forrest and him could go jab for jab in an exciting fight

Yeah, and that reason is Vernon was still establishing himself at that division. He wasn't one of the big men at welter in Hoya's time there. He solidified his reign when Hoya moved up. He really comes into his own in the next era.

And for the record.... even though its not part of the thread.... Trinidad woulda KO'd Forrest brutally. Vern doesnt matchup well at all vs a puncher like Tito. Felix woulda eventually found his range and landed the hook, and Forrest woulda gone bye bye.

I'd favor Oscar slightly but I think he'd have had to pick himself up off the floor at some time to do it.

Forrest beats de la hoya easy! I cant see how U guys come up wit all this stuff based on the Mayorga fight. Mayorga was unorthodox fighter who was very very good in his prime. He had really good legs and throws punches nothing like de la hoya. Boxers usually have problems with fighter that have unconventional styles but de la hoya on the other hand does not! Hoyas legs werent that good and he was alway troubled by size. How dare people say hoya could out jab forrest! Thats crazy talk!!!!
