Yeah hesure wasn't a fan of Floyd Sr, but Foreman likes brawlers. Reember Floyd vs Corrales and Tito vs Hop. He always said they Hop and Floyd better watch out during the whole beatings of those fights
Dude have you actually watched the VARGAS vs Winky fight? People were giving Winky much more credit than he deserved because no one expected anything from Winky, so when he did somthing it was overcredited. IF Winky would have won the championship rounds i wouldn't say a word but he didn't . as for the TITO fight who know's what would have happened if he didn't get his conditioning pounded out of his balls. Low blow in the Stephans fight? cmon dog. He was a bobby Chacon of his era but to say he didn't deserve to be called elite just aint right. I mean isn't VArgas the one that gave Tito and DLH the tuffest fights of their lives up to that point? he also had Tito crying at the post fight conference cuz he was physicaly and emotionally drained.
I love how people tend to remember this fight as some Hoya beatdown... they practically traded rounds up until the 6th where hoya finally won two in a row... vargas won the 9th, was on his way to winning the 10th when he was staggered, and obviously the rest is history. This fight is a pure classic It shows BOXING.... two highly skilled fighters, using timing and skill but at the same time its a FIGHT and you know it from the first bell. Although i was deeply saddened by vargas's loss, i was not let down by his performance.... Classic and great fight
Exactly, if youre gonna talk **** at least go out there and give everything you have to try to back it up. . . Vargas did exactly that.
That is what I remember, but it has been a long time and sometimes if you watch a fight again, you can see clearer. I will try to find the Winky fight and watch it again. He lost to all the elite fighters. I felt he was a B+ or A- fighter. Tito, Mosley, and Oscar were the elite. He beat Quartey, but when does Quartey fight, once every two years. He was a good fighter and would fight anybody and I will give him 100% credit for that, but he lost to the elite. His management is what screwed him in throwing him in with Tito. Low blow, okay. The first round and the very first left hook was priceless. Getting hit low is tough, believe me I have fought with the pain once. Trying to be offensive and defensive while being in that kind of pain is tough. Even if they give you five minutes. I think Tito was crying from getting the paycheck for the fight. Just kidding.
I don't think it was a beatdown and I do agree with you, but I believe he was damaged after the Tito fight. Now, that was a beatdown. It was a fight he was not ready for. They pushed him into that fight too soon. You and I can say we are not afraid of no one and will fight anyone one, but to what extent? Your trainers and managers should know what you are capable of and if you are ready for some one like Tito. Somtimes balls get you hurt or killed.
He was more than ready for Trinidad. He had beat Winky Wright. What he wasn't ready as one poster described was his conditioning sucked out of his balls by three hard uppercuts to the nards. Going into the 10th I had the fight even.
Illegal hand taping might of had something to do with it too. oh yeah and that shot to the balls, on purpose.
He did. He should have been 100% though. I heard of his back problems and his weight gains. It sucks to talk **** and then lose though.
Your right Vargas is a A- fighter. OScar and Tito needed VArgas to add to their legacies. To this day I still feel Vargas pushed both of them to the limit and made them bring out their best performances. I think they both had their best fight vs VArgas. VArgas is like tha hearns or LaPorte of his era
the left hook at the end was crazy, it came from such little movement even in slow motion, it is fast and all hoya does is a slight twitch of the hips
Agree. This is what I meant about being elite. I felt that Vargas wanted to beat these guys in Mosley, Tito, Oscar, and even Mayorga. He probably felt that if these other guys can beat Mayorga, for the exception of Mosley and that could be signed soon, he could do it. He may be a A- fighter, but he is a A+ human being to pull himself out of the life he lived and to win a title and be set for life with investments. That is great in my book.
LOL!!! Sup CHINO :good Its like seeing ME post LOL!!! for real though your accurate on all counts nice post :good
