It was a faint. He set it up. Thru out the night DLH was hitting Vargas with lead rights but the intention of that was to set up the LEFT HOOK(his bread and butter). Notice how DLH flinches the right hand or wrist and then throws the Left hook. also notice how Vargas thinks hes going to get hit with the right. DLH always had good faints.
Right. I don't want to call Tito a cheat, but **** Hopkins caught him messing around with the wraps. It just makes you wonder if he did this for all of his fights or just that he was dealing with a MW. I for one will win at all costs like I would definitely spit out the mouth piece if it would to buy me time to survive ala Correles. I would take a knee or hold on for life (Ruiz should have done vs Tua). What I won't do is hit some one in the balls intentionally. If it is done to me in a fight, then all bets are off. I hate to lose, but there is always some one better or having a better day/night.
Vargas got ****ed up but DLH was still in a fight its not like the Mayorga fight where he landed exactly 1 good punch after all the **** he talked.
Vargas talked all the trash but couldnt back it up. Oscar De La Hoya let his fists do the talking. As stupid as this may sound but De La Hoya and Vargas were both in the Olympic team together and there rivalry began when Vargas was angered by De La Hoya laughing at him after he fell into a snowbank HAHA ! for years Vargas called Oscar out but Oscar said he would never give Vargas the chance because he was disrespectful but I suppose all the trash talk got to Oscar. The fight I thought was even up until the 6th when De La Hoya took over and in the 10th hurt Vargas with a left hook. In the 11th that punch was picture perfect the left hook De La Hoya landed to deck Vargas. Vargas was always jealous of De La Hoya, even after Vargas was ko'd he would not even shake or show respect to Oscar, after the fight he simply got up of the canvas and walked out of the Arena.
it is a myth that vargas was shot before this fight. he really looked like he was going to out hustle de la hoya for most of the fight.
Someone on ESB once tried to tell me that ball punches didn't throw off your game plan by that much but I just don't see how it can help much, especially by a heavy hitter like Trinidad. I think Vargas was competitive in that Trinidad fight, don't see it as a beatdown at all. Trinidad himself tasted the canvas at one point. I think he was ready but perhaps needed to know a fight against Trinidad he would have to drop his macho **** which he couldn't do. Instead he stayed on the inside and slugged it out with a guy he could have obviously beaten had he boxed more and warred less.
Total myth, I agree. I think Vargas not only fought better than against Trinidad, he had a better head on his shoulders. Against Trinidad we see him trying to prove he can be the one to outmuscle and hurt the big puncher. The guy was all balls but little brains. Against Hoya he fights smarts and keeps the fight close and had he not gotten hit clean by Hoya's biggest punch perfectly he still might have turned the fight around. But damn, what a punch. The body combo followed by a massive left hook coming off the hip was one of the most beautiful punch combos in boxing history. Not just being a hugger but that's something you can watch again and again because of the technical beauty.
i can't get enough of the ending to that fight i also can't get tired of watching the tito fight. some of the knockdowns in that fight were spectacular
I love how Tito Trinidad haters love to bring up propaganda bull**** like Tito so called illegal hand wraps as Dougie Fischer put it the only fighters bringing this BS illegal handwrap situation up is those who were KTFO by Trinidad. I never heard Pernell complain bout no so called wraps neither did De la Hoya mainly because they went the distance with Tito and did'nt get KO. And if the Trinidad camp were doing something illegal it would have been exposed way before Tito was 40 fights into his career especially at the high level he was at.
When I first heard about the handwraps I was pissed as anyone would be. It was Hopkins who made the claim, not Vargas or Joppy. However, we know Hopkins talks **** and there's really no way of proving he did that. The only thing that gives it any claim is how big of a puncher Tito was which seems abnormal somehow. But we have Hearns as predecessor to show someone actually can hit that hard. So, now I just enjoy the fights for what they are and marvel at his power. I'd rather remember Tito as a great than as a cheat. But that's just me, I can see how others might feel their champ was sent into a meatgrinder for nothing as the results are suspect.
Oh yeah I know that but afterwards both Vargas and Joppy ran with that story to justify why they got KO.
i agree. hopkins can't call anybody a cheat. he is the king of cheating in the ring. i have never known a dirtier world class fighter
