And why didn't Pacquaio's fight with Oscar do half the numbers? You know, after Oscar proved he was still legitimate by going Split Decision with the #1 P4P ?
I think that to beat Oscar's record, you need another Latino. They are the reason for Oscar's numbers. GBP knows this. That's why they over-hype any Latino with at least average boxing skills. If he keeps improving, in 3-5 years I can see Saul Canelo Alvarez being pretty big on PPV.
Personally I think the whole fascination with PPV is ****ing bull****, and ultimately will kill boxing. I saw Hagler-Hearns on FREE tv as a kid in New Zealand. I saw all of the major Hearns, Leonard, Duran fights, FREE on TV too. And Tyson v Spinks, Bruno etc. Not sure how much the TV company paid in NZ, (PPV didn't exist in NZ back then anyway). those are the fights that got me into boxing, and still follow it now (though nowhere near as closely) because of them. I don't buy PPV's, even tho I could through my Fox over here. I'm not paying 50 bucks + to watch some shower of **** show put on, that never, ever lives up to its billing. If I really want to watch something live, I'll find a bar or pub with it on. Otherwise I'll just wait, and youtube it.
Rant continued... It's just greed that leads to this. I won't pay ever for PPV. So all that moneys gone from a potential fan. But if the charges were let's say $10, then I'd probably buy plenty of fights. But I'm not paying 50 bucks for a fight where I pretty much know what's going to happen anyway.
Floyd, no. Manny, possibly, but unlikely. Manny could only if he faces and defeats Floyd, and then chooses to continue boxing the ''elite'' in his class, and beyond. A combination Mosley/Berto/Williams/Martinez/Margarito/Marquez 3/Chavez JR (big Mexican following)/etc. could do it. NOT LIKELY, but the ONLY fighter that could (present time) If I was betting...NO.
Floyd gave Oscar his biggest payday. Oscar never earned as much or sold as much without Floyd. To find Oscar's name on the list, you have to go past second place also. Floyd's at a point where he's outselling even Oscar.
