Manny Steward always talks about how De La Hoya had a weird looking left hook and I think I know what he means. His hook is very short and quick and he doesn't seem to twist his body all the way into it. It's almost as if he's punching at the target and not through it, and yet he's so heavy handed with his left hand he still manages to hurt everyone he catches with that hook.

I think they have referred to it as a hybrid Lefthook. Because often times he throws it from the hip. Lefthook with a touch of uppercut.
