I thought Mosley deserved the rematch, he landed the better harder shots and some brutal bodyshots round on round. Delahoya landed more but they were flurrying arm shots and he ran while Mosley landed meaty meaninful shots. I suppose its what you go for
I thought both looked pretty awful in the second fight...got nothing on their first one which was an exciting and quite technical battle. Oscar took it to Shane and Mosley was still a confident combo throwing monster instead of the more timid one punch at a time fighter that the Forrest fights had turned him into by the second fight. I thought Hoya defintely won it but the fallout from that fight was hilarious...Hoya fans were going nuts claiming Oscar won by near shut out, which is crap. I agree with PP, like in a lot of his fights Oscar was doing ineffective flurrying that seemed to fool a hell of a lot of people...He won it but not by much IMO.
Yeah I see it like that. Its not like it was totally ineffective, I mean I thought he beat Mosley fairly clearly in the end. But so often when he does that the punches either dont land clean or they are relatively pitty pat. He did it against Pea aswell and its worrying his "workrate" seem to fool a lot of people.
Although the first 9rounds of the Tito fight might have been oscar at his best. I also like the way he showed resolve and good stamina and the ability to turn it up a notch when he needed to against Quartey. In my opinion Oscar needed that last round to win it and he came thru in dramatic fashion. If only he could have done that in MosleyI,and against Mayweather and his career would have even looked more impressive and he wouldnt get the harsh criticism he unjustly gets.
I thought Oscar was pretty dreadful against Quartey, and clearly lost the fight. All I ever hear anyone say about that fight is that Oscar deserved because he "closed the show in the last round", but what does that matter when you are more than 2 points down anyway? That last round does not change the fact that Oscar was poor over the course of the fight by his own standards, and downright rotten in a few of the mid-late rounds. JMHO.
OK rewatched today after not having seen it in a few years. Oscar was outboxing him early but their is some serious HBO bias and to score it you need to turn the sound down. From round 8 onwards Mosley was managing to land more and hurt Oscar more 1. DLH (clear) 2. Dlh (clear) 3 Mosley (close) 4 DLH (clear) 5 Mosley (close DLH lands more to the head, Mosley serious bodyshots) 6. dlh (clear) 7. mosley (clear, oscar doesnt do much this round, Shanes the aggressor and throws much more power shots landing a good few especially to the body) 8. mosley (another case of Mosley landing big shots to the body while Oscar lands a few jabs and occasional right, Oscar workrate has seriously dropped in this round) 9. Mosley (BIG ROUND - hurts Oscar to both the head and body as they start exchanging) 10. Mosley (very clear round) 11. Mosley (hurts OScar again) 12. Oscar - clear Mosley 7-5, but I could have the 3rd and 5th to Oscar which would have it 7-5 Oscar BTW on the night of the fight with the commentary I scored it 9-3 Oscar, you really need to turn that off when scoring it, no problem with anyone having it 7-5 Oscar but the likes of Lederman giving Oscar the 10th, the commentators calling all of Oscars shots and none of Mosleys, talking about Mosley not working when Oscar didnt do anything from 7 through 11, have their affect on peoples perceptions
This was pretty much mine as well although you could also argue round 4 was even and tito won 9 even so oscar still won the fight I just watched this again on Monday and i STILL stuggle to even generously give tito enough rounds for even Ledermans card of 114 -114
I don't need to watch fights with the sound down to score them objectively, I can separate what I see from the opinions of others. Oscar won the fight. If I have time, I'll re-watch and score it later.
You could make a point for that one too. Regardless of what some say Tito didnt make Vargas damaged goods,it was a combo of Oscar and Tito. Vargas was still a helluva fighter when he fought Oscar, and i at the beginning it looked like Vargas was gonna handle him,Oscar pulled a trick out the bag and look excellent in dismantling Vargas. Im a big fan of both guys but I cleaned up on bets that day,and Won the Pool.
i became a fan of both fighters that night. it was his dlh most exiting fight but i don't think it was his greatest performance. but you could see the grudege they had for each other. oscar's most boring fight was against stevie forbes. i dont think i even stayed awake for that.
