Just wondering how involved he is with fighters pre-fight and during? Seems a bit of a strange situation when a trainer will spend months working with a fighter and then Dean turns up to babysit. You can't really **** with his record, he has been involved in some way with the majority of Fwank's title holders. Does he offer the necessary advise to spur on fighters to world title level or is he just there to work as a cornerman/cut man/carry the spit bucket?:think
On saturday night if I had been Billy Nelson i'd have chinned the ****....talking over the trainer and giving inane advice to the fighter doesn't help anyone.
Didn't really notice on the night but watched it twice since and you have to wonder whether he does more harm than good. Also in the 10th was it Warren who shouted up instructions from the side... just should have let Billy get on with it.
He is a decent guy, been in a good few fight corners. he gets fighters ready with padwork and stuff before their fight and just in general keeps them calm.
As a trainer I'd insist on him either being removed. He might be a decent bloke I don't know, but I'd imagine him as an undermining presence in the corner. Apparently he's good at wrapping hands. Let him wrap the hands then by all means, but no more!
Isn't he also a expert hand wrapper? I think he would be a decent asset to have in anyone's corner. He's been been there and done it plenty of times in the past.
I know someone in the game who dislikes him intensely. Says ''he cannot stand him'' when i asked about Powell. The guys not anyone of major significance but he a good guy and if he don't like someone there's normally a reason. I don't like him being in corner especially when he talks over trainer who's worked his socks off to prepare his fighter and already knows what he's doing.
When Enzo Calzaghe used to lose his rag at Joe and go mental in the corner Dean would give Joe some decent, calm advice. But yeah, at times he tries to take over in the corner and he had a go at us internet lot last year.
I must say Dean isn't any problem in the corner when we work together he speaks to me during the rounds and lets face it two sets of eyes are better than one.Regarding saturday night Dean was getting a bit excited as i was when Ricky was so close to pulling off a great result.Thank you Dean for your help, support and having faith in Burns.
Billy did tell him at one point to shut up, i think it was just beofre the beggining of the last round. He brings nothing to the table when it comes to instruction.
