The toe whilst a non-factor was actually broken. A small niggling injury is def more understandable than wearing a stupid costume. This has even topped Manny's wrong socks excuse.

The toe excuse while clearly poor is at least in the realm of sanity.

Imagine if Mike Tyson has said, I lost to Douglas because I didn't wear a robe during the ring walk so my body got too cold, so I started badly.

Or if Frazier said he lost to Ali in Manila because his robe on the ring walk was too thick and he got too hot and sweaty which made him lose.

The best excuse was Wladimir Klitschko claiming he had no legs against Lamon Brewster in their first fight because his cut man rubbed Vaseline on his legs ... and that caused them to go weak.

And then he fired the guy who rubbed Vaseline on his legs (Joe Souza, I believe) and blamed him for the KO loss.

I can understand how carrying around 45 pounds for 15 minutes or so before getting in the ring with a guy who outweighs you by 40 plus pounds ... who then decides to lay all his weight on you ... can wear on you.

And I can understand how a broken toe can impact how you plant your feet to deliver punches.

I'm still not sure how Vaseline on your legs causes you to lose the strength in your legs against a guy YOU outweigh by 20 pounds.

But that won't keep Wlad out of the Hall of Fame.

    Wilder-Fury III in August !!!

Don't defend the costume excuse. It's shameful. Wilder would be better off saying I got my tactics wrong, worked on the wrong stuff in the gym as I was expecting a different Fury and will come into the rematch at my ideal weight having prepared for anything he might throw at me. This is why I think I can win.

Blaming the outfit shows he's learned nothing from what should of been a chastening defeat.

Vaseline is thick petroleum jelly. If you apply it to your legs it will lock moisture in by creating occlusion, preventing the skin from breathing and the ability to sweat and discard toxins.

If the 300lbs+ costume did in fact cause Wilder to fatigue and stress fracture his legs, it wouldn't make one difference as Wilder himself is only to blame for wearing that monstrosity.

The pinky toe excuse is terrible. I ran for miles once before I notice that my BIG toe was broken.

Excuses are just excuses. I do not like excuses because it is a way to try to affect the record. Wilder was given time to train and he said his arm was hurt for the first fight, and now he makes another excuse after the first fight. Some guys love excuses. Which is why the Duran excuses always bothered me. He lost to the better fighters he fought and he had excuses. Had he beaten the best and then lost to Moore and Barkley he might have had a better argument. Had Wilder lost to a lesser guy and beaten Fury that would mean more.

Didn't George Foreman claim he was poisoned by the CIA before the rumble in the jungle?
