Did any fighter ever face criminal charges for killing someone in the ring?? Or is there a contract waving all liabilities?
Of course you cant blame it on the boxer, thats why we have strict refs that should prevent stuff like jones vs lebedev to happen.
This was the OP's real question, and I'd love to know as well. You would think that such a waiver is in every contract, at least for the fighters. It's more interesting to imagine what the liability is of trainers, refs, and the governing bodies. For instance, if Resto or Margarito had actually caused a death in the ring, due to plastered hands, would someone be liable for not checking the gloves properly?
yeah, I remember that. How Lebedev looked at the ref, and couldnt believe he didnt stop the fight yet. I dont understand RJJ by the way. One would think he would retire, but he keeps going (and worsens the brain injuries he supposedly has...)
Yep, most of us remember the Duk-Koo Kim death. Very tragic. Prophetically, he wrote the message "live or die" on his Las Vegas hotel lamp shade only days before the bout.
Jones said he likes the attention, gives him a superstar feeling, jones is a fool though he should eb cherrypicking now definitely avoid anyone with power, just fight bums in exhibitions or something if you dont want to retire.
Paret was killed by Emile Griffith here, he died in the hospital a bit later, he never woke up from the KO. [yt]vBNQNwCyYqk[/yt]
It was said to be the reason it change, but others believe it was TV scheduling as it is easier to fit 12 rounds plus intros and post fight interviews in an hour rather than 15. Boxing was much, much bigger on network TV back then in the states.
