Debate over. Andre Ward is the greatest SMW ever, well clear of Calzaghe.

    Oh come on Bailey...

I still have Joe as GOAT SMW, but it is much closer than you are trying to make it..

And why even bring the Jones and Hopkins fights up? They weren't at SMW.. That is like rating Jones at SMW for knocking out Virgil Hill.

Good post and I agree! Though I think RJJ-Ward would be more competitive than what your saying, I do think RJJ stops him late.

PRIME RJJ TKO THIS CURRENT WARD in the 11th and is up on the cards by 1-2 points.

The last time Ward fought a fighter out of the top 10 in his (or another division, Dawson) was when he fought Pudwill in 2009. Since then, everyone he has fought has been top 10 at 168.

bailey is losing his mind . . . lol. Joe did **** by age 28 only fought an old shopworn Eubanks who was weight drained and ready to retire. I have always said that Joe C was the No1 at SMW all time and now he was outdone by a fighter who is in the infancy of his career. For weeks failey was trying to diminish the accomplishments of Dawson because he feared a Ward win . . . lol. bailey there is nothing wrong with being number two . . . except Joe will soon be forgotten. I had ranked joe in the top 100 ATG but that is now in jeopardy . . . lol. Poor failey, he is probably on suicide watch

The fight where Roy tested positive was later on in his career in Indiana against Richard Hall, who also tested positive. To my knowledge Jones' tests always came back clean outside of that one instance.

I said a few years ago that Calzaghe's weak resume would see him supplanted as the number 1 supermiddleweight very soon (ie, the next time a dominant champion emerged who wasn't scared to fight the best right away), and I was attacked and ridiculed for it at the time.

Lo and behold, I was right all along. Told ya. :smoke

 Desperate fails. This thread is making Failey lose his marbles!

Sorry Failey, you should've hitched your wagon to a fighter whose legacy wasn't built on a pathetic resume for 9 years out of his 10 year smw championship tenure. :deal

Failey broke down years ago, if his posts are anything to go by. Guy is the GOAT of fanboy ******s.

I think prime Roy would have dominated and knocked out Chad Dawson and Joe Calzaghe.

Jones vs Ward? Ward could be competitive because his defence and handspeed are good enough to keep him in the fight, but I still see him getting outlanded, hurt, and either stopped late or UD'd.

    Ability-wise, Jones was something else.

At his best its hard to envision anyone beating Jones. The there was something about him that seemed unreal. That said, I think we have not seen the best of Ward. The qualities that make him a good fighter are hard to quantify but its clear he is getting better. Considering he just dismantled the Ring mag champ; the undisputed LHW champ, a man that made Hopkins look over matched skill wise, it is scary to think what he is building up to.
