Debate over. Andre Ward is the greatest SMW ever, well clear of Calzaghe.

In reality, Kessler was sharper when he fought Calzaghe. People who fallows the Danes career knows this.

But thats neither here or there. Ward is a great fighter, and if he has not surpassed Calzaghe yet I am sure he will soon :good

Lets see how many people jump off the bandwagon if Ward gets his ass handed to him in his next couple of fights..... `overrated` `exposed` blah blah..... he obviously still has a bit to go to surpass Calzaghe, all this unnecessary hype isn`t going to do him any good right now IMO, just let him do his thing.

Ward is 28 now, just say he starts losing a few in his 30's....what then? Calzaghe never lost!

Of course he didn't lose ,he would have never fought the guys Ward did ..Thats why he stayed undefeated !

This isn't going to happen though. The guy is elite. If dominating the bejesus out of the other two best smw's of his era (Kessler & Froch) somehow didn't convince you, the complete demolition of borderline p4p talent Dawson should have.

If Calzaghe had been doing stuff like this 3 years into his title reign, a similar bandwagon would have been formed, and rightly so (but instead he was fighting David Starie and Omar Sheika).

No point in refusing to recognize greatness while it's happening, should appreciate what we've got and salute it deservedly. :good

wonder when Failey will admit that Ward is better than Calzaghe?

Option 1 -When Ward is undefeated in 2014 with three times as many top opponents as Cal
Option 2 - in 2018 when Ward is undefeated, 36, defended 22 times and retiring?
Option 3 - never, he'll always insist Calzaghe is the best even wehn Joe has dropped out of the top ten SMWs?

  8. Joe is Hopkins and Jones' daddy for life. Remember that.

Seen it, just saying that lets not get carried away as usual... somebody made a thread about who`s the no1 p4p fighter today & Ward was 2nd to floyd with 16 votes... I mean I`m no fmj fan but surely at this point in time everybody should be voting for him.

    Andre Ward............VS.............Joe Calzaghe
    Froch.....................................Kessler
    This content is protected
    (Kessler beat Froch)
    Kessler...................................Eubank
    This content is protected

Dawson..................................Lacy (Lacy a proven SMW and winner of 5 SMW title fights. Dawson no pedigree at all at SMW)
    This content is protected

Abraham.................................Mitchell (Mitchell a 2 time SMW champ who had never been clearly beaten, only lost by debateable SD in Germany to Ottke, had KOd long time SMW champ Liles, beaten a future SMW champ twice, compared to AA who had done nothing at SMW)
    This content is protected

Bika.......................................Brewer (Bikas best win became Manfredo, Brewer had beaten H Graham and was a SMW champ)
    This content is protected
(Bika was a Calzaghe left over at that time and had been out of the ring bar less than a round for a while)
Green.....................................Woodhall (Woodhall a SMW champ, who had beaten a reigning SMW champ, a world rated former champ, a future SMW champ and Branco a world rated SMW who became WBA LHW champ, who at SMW beat R Reid and G Johnson who when old and shot KOd Green)
    This content is protected
Miranda...................................Bika (Bika now a top 5 SMW had drawn with 3 time SMW champ Beyer)
    This content is protected

    Buchanan (?????)......................Sheika
    This content is protected
(Sheika was coming off a win over G Johnson and was a top 10 SMW at the time)
Camou (?????)..........................Veit (Veit a SMW title holder who had a fair resume, better than at least 2 of the current top 5 SMWs)
    This content is protected
    Then include the
    This content is protected
win and then the other top 10 SMWs and its clear Calzaghe is well ahead. I could have put
    This content is protected
ahead of Green, Camou, Miranda, Buchanon

Very clear but nobody will have a sensible answer to say otherwise, it will just be a lame Faileys losing it answer when they cant debate against

Somebody tell me how Ward has done more than that.

    Nobody can counter the above

I said to myself when you first posted on this thread, "as long as he isn't talking complete fanboy dog****, I'll answer his post since it's my thread".

Then I got to the second line of the post, and realized you are talking complete fanboy dog**** again, hence my disinterest in even bothering with your sad, desperate posts anymore.

Clueless **** at it still. Is this how you really make comparisons? Pick one fighter to compare to another specific fighter and try to say which one's better? My god your a dense twat. You don't possess the ability to discuss ANYTHING in a rational manner due to the fact you have your head so far up your own ass. Silly little kid Failey....

You're right, Froch and Dawson would have been very good wins for legacy. At the time though, Froch wasn't established and I don't think anyone would have rated the win too highly, his coming out party was defeating Pascal then Taylor, that's when people took notice of him. By that time, Calzaghe was retired. I don't think Froch had enough to get Calzaghe to the table when he was 13-0, or a British/Commonwealth champ, Kessler was the big name at 168 and Joe fought him.

In reality, their era's didn't cross over, Froch got to the top of the game after Calzaghe had retired, if Froch was a big name as he is now up to 2007, and Calzaghe didn't fight then you can fairly call it a duck.

The fight with Dawson was there, but the risk/reward wasn't worth it, Dawson is dangerous at LHW and even today, he has no fanbase, hence why he had to come down to 168 and travel to Oakland. Calzaghe should have taken the Pavlik fight, he would have schooled him. That was such a good win for Bernard, people wrote him off completely before the fight

Fair enough, I was pretty tired watching the fight at 4:30am but I thought Dawson just looked terrible, completely out of it from the first bell. I respect that Ward put on a great performance, no-one between 160-175 would have beaten Ward that night. However, Ward is not a puncher at all, and he had Dawson down three times and on ***** street, Chad even quit. Do you really think Chad was with it that night? Take nothing away from Ward's performance, but the win doesn't mean much to me, I don't think it does much for Ward's resume.

Veit in fairness wasn't a bad fighter, but you're right in title defences against the likes of Pudwill and Ashira don't mean much at all. I wonder who's the next big fight for Ward? Pascal? Ward beats him clearly. Rematching Froch or Kessler in Nottingham or Denmark are the two fights that could enhance Ward's resume right now as I see it. What do you think?
