Debate over. Andre Ward is the greatest SMW ever, well clear of Calzaghe.

Hi mate, good thread, I always look forward to reading your posts. But if you carry on, you'll cause Bailey to have a breakdown ha!

I like Andre Ward, and your right about Roy, he only had around 6 fights at the weight after he beat James, and then he moved up to 175. But I watched the fight last night, and as good as Andre is, I just can't envisage him being able to beat Roy at 25/26. So I just wondered what your thoughts were mate?

Do you think Roy at his peak would of beaten Andre Ward and Chad Dawson?

    Regards, Loudon.

    Hi mate!

What did you make of the fight?

I didn't think it would play out like it did. Do you think Chad was drained, or do you think Ward was just that good? There's lots of different opinions on here.

Two quick questions, if that's ok?

Do you think Andre would have beaten Roy, or caused him any problems?

Do you think Joe would/could have beaten Andre?

    Thanks Zod!

    Loudon.

I havent watched it yet. I'm busy downloading it now, lol
Ill have to get back to you after I watched it. To tell the truth I was never happy with the fact that Dawson was moving down to 168. I cant think of many fighters that move down and are 100%.
No. Being skilled is one thing but Jones would have a massive advantage in terms of speed and power and I think thats a mountain Ward wouldnt be able to overcome.
No. Ward is on another level to him skill wise. I think Ward would be able to control the range and neutralise Calzaghe left cross.
    your welcome

    Easily ward in my opinion.

Thought he would win, but what a performance! I favor ward both skill wise and in terms of resume, and quality of wins.

    :lol::lol:

Ward-Dawson fight, and Kitikasem/Popkins/general zod starts a thread the next day comparing him to Calzaghe :rofl:patsch

In all seriousness, Ward's record is fantastic, Kessler and Froch are excellent wins. Dawson is a top fighter, but I'm sorry I just don't rate the win that highly, I think any of the top 5 SMW's today would have destroyed the Dawson of last night.

The scary thing about Ward is that he's getting better and better with each fight. No SMW or even LHW today beats the Ward that showed up last night.

As for Calzaghe-Ward resume comparisons? Have to wait until Ward finishes his career, but at this rate his achievements will be unbelievable in a few years time.

As for Calzaghe v Ward in a H2H? It's all guesses and opinions, but I think Ward would struggle with Calzaghe's speed, rhythm and work-rate, Ward got tired against Froch late on and Calzaghe was more relentless, and Ward doesn't have the punch to keep Joe off him. It would be a close fight, in a trilogy I could see Joe pulling it out
