Debate over. Andre Ward is the greatest SMW ever, well clear of Calzaghe.

name 3 fighters who might beat him at 168?
it'll probably happen eventually, but ward has creamed all the top contenders

The SMW division is very weak at this time. Wards best win was past best Kessler then after that past best Froch.
If Ward hadnt of ducked Bute, he would have got the credit he deserves.

    Who could beat Ward

    G Groves is a possibility
    J DeGale has a chance
Z Erdei at LHW not drained at SMW but may be a bit old now
    N Cleverly is a possibility

But we know ward only fights in Oakland

how do you know when froch and kessler were past their best?
kessler was the betting favourite going into the tourney, and froch booked his ticket from a last-gasp win over taylor - easily the biggest win of his career at that time

how on earth can you credit ward for "ducking bute" as more legitimate when hes just been massacred by, in your own words, a "past best froch"?

the SMW division is stronger now than when calzaghe ruled it, because both ward and froch are in the big picture

kessler was calzaghe's only real threat

It took Ward 25 fights to be considered the right no 1 and Ring champion at 168lbs

How long did it take Joe to achieve that feat ?

    Speaks volumes...

Yes ward is now considered the best SMW all time, but he doesnt hold onto that crappy distinction as some sort of earth shattering achievement like the no 2 does, he realises that the division is short lived

He has plenty more to do than that , he's just getting started here

    :lol::patsch

the division is not weak at this moment, it's just that the best are fighting the best something you're not used to seeing.

Seems like you're just a fan of Joes and not "168" like you claim :good

    true
but just imagine if joe had shot to fame like ward did...

its not like it was beyond him, and ward is doing it on the big stage - which is exactly why dawson (who has a solid profile and following over here) went looking for him

again, ive never dissed calzaghe's ability because he was hands down the best SMW around in his time, but with the help of frank ****** they did a great job of getting rich and doing a lot to discredit his obvious boxing skills

Yes, in every way. Far more technically proficient, he has unified titles, and shown an ambition to fight the best, then dominated them.

He didn't ask for the crown jewels, hasn't sat on a fringe belt, and doesn't have 40+ faded legends as his best wins.

Failey must be on suicide watch today.

He is a Joe Cal fan, not a boxing fan. It is similar to trying to discuss music with somebody who only owns Bieber albums and doesn't understand why the rest of the world doesn't see Bieb's greatness.

It's not an over reaction at all.

    Comon now.

He's the best all time in a division that has not been around too long, not such a massive achievment really.

He has a better record than a guy that hid out fighting cans for over a decade with 20 bogus defenses the same time ottke had 20 defenses when they was in the same division.

He has a better SM resume than Joe, its not Wards life achievment or anything he has plenty more to do.

He actually highlights how overrated Joe's career is .

Funny how dawson is a big win. What were Dawsons big wins?

Why would I be on suicide watch. Ward is only fighting fighters where their losses date back to Calzaghe.
He didnt want to crown jewels just to fight in Oakland, have the fight at a weight to suit and not have to fight Bute whatever the money, ooopps forgot he ducked Bute did we

    LOL @ "past best" Froch...

When was he at his "best," when he beat weight drained GJ, lost to shot Kessler, or came from behind to beat shot Jermain Taylor? Oh, and didn't he destroy Lucian Bute in his last fight.

    **** off now.

Great post mate, I agree completely. Chad's a good fighter, but Ward broke him down mentally as well as physically. Chad shut down mentally, and I don't think a return fight at 175 would favour Chad at all.

Where does Andre go from here?

Surely he has to move up to 175 within the next 12 months?

A few years ago, I was expecting big things from Andre Dirrell, but things haven't worked out for him. I was hoping that they'd fight each other, in what I thought would of been a great fight.

I think Froch will beat Bute again next year, because I think that devastating loss will have scarred him. If that happens, would Andre be interested in unifying the division? I don't think he would be, considering what happened in the final of the Super Six. Also I don't think he'd be bothered about a Kessler rematch either. So I think he'll definitely move up soon.

I also don't know where Froch goes from here either? if he's going to continue to fight for a few more years, then apart from a Kessler rematch, there doesn't seem anybody for him to fight at 168.

    Regards, Loudon.
