I have Gomez number 7, he was really good, I expected more of him as heavy, a pity that he did not try to unify on cv, he fought only against strangers
Fair enough. How do you rate Adamek's run from Bell through to Banks? Or Gassiev's run from Shimmell through to Dorticos? Kucher wasn't a bad scalp either, especially given how easily Huck won (Kucher gave Makabu a tough fight). I agree though, his resume didn't have any stand out names (unless you want to consider Lebedev) and quite a few close tussles. No embarrassments like the Thompson fight though, which is worth bearing in mind considering how long he competed at the weight. You put Haye at number three, which is unwarranted in my view. But CW is kind of a free for all outside the top two, so you could probably swap any of Haye, Adamek, Gomez and co and it wouldn't make much difference. I just dislike seeing Haye so high based on what he did. He was a very flawed fighter who would have been found out had he stuck around CW but is treated like some legend while actual deserving campaigners like Lebedev get overlooked.
Ramirez, Arslan II, Afolabi IV and Kucher were his best (non robbery) wins. I get your point though. He lacks that top tier quality and benefited on more than one occasion from some very favourable judging and reffing. No one outright beat him down during that time though. Even Lebedev had his hands full at times.
It's not a clear win for either man. Both were sloppy and wild at CW and both packed major power while possessing defensive vulnerabilities.
Adamek was a top fighter but like a lot of these type of guys he didn't do an awful lot at the weight. Gassiev, honestly can't make my mind up. He had basically a good 18 months. And I have a nagging doubt in my head as to how he would perform against a younger Lebedev. But it will be interesting to see if Dorticos goes on to win the tournament when the pandemic is over, that will bolster his resume. I think 1 and 2 are a very easy choice to make. There's next to nothing separating 3 probably right down to 15 imo. Guys like Huck and Nelson could easily be argued highly as well. Theres a much bigger gap between 2 and 3 then there is between 3 and 15 imo. Just so happens I put Haye top of that bunch due to his athletic gifts.
The only way that Huck could beat Haye would be by ko or tko, in points he has no chance and Huck was not a knockout man
Even if he doesn't the fact that he's reached the finals speaks volumes for how good Gassiev was. I mean if Briedis blows him away it might diminish it somewhat, but I expect a close tough fight that probably goes to points. A prime Lebedev might just have nicked it over that version of Gassiev, but that's no knock on him. Lebs is one of the toughest CWs the division has ever seen. Again fair enough. I'd put Haye around 7-10 myself. I never felt he established himself at the top as well as he could have had he stuck around even a year longer. I also feel H2H he showed too many vulnerabilities to back him against some of the upper echelon of the past few years.
Huck had plenty of knockout power. His chopping right hand decapitated people. Why does he have no chance to outpoint Haye? Haye dropped rounds a lot at CW.
who can you name? i don't remember a single fight against a level fighter who won by nokaut I can tell you quicky Minto, Richards and I also think that he was not a one-hitter , the times he knocked out were more due to accumulation of blows and tiredness of the rival
I might lean towards Huck as well, though Haye certainly has a chance to knock him out if he caught him. It's a fight which could turn on a dime, and would likely involve a number of brutal back and forth exchanges. Sort of like the Glowacki fight but even more intense and possibly ending sooner.
I'm not too familiar with 90s/early 2000s CWs and your mention of them in discussions like these peaked my interest that there was perhaps a whole world of quality CWs waiting to be explored. But your mention of Mayfield as being comparable to Gassiev makes me realise you're either trolling or don't know WTF you're talking about.
I completely disagree with you on Uysk 's competition at Cruiserweight. Gassiev is far and away better than Mayfiled and Braithwaite was not as good as Dorticos. Uysk completely cleaned out the division which was probably the best era of Cruiserweights ever.
Don't be condescending. You are telling me I don't have a clue about the Cruiserweight division? **** you! I know all about Don King's stable aka Mormeck, Braithwaite, Concrete Davis etc and they are not as good as the batch we have right now nott even close. Look at the amauter backgrounds alone of the guys that Uysk fought. Gomez and Jirov where great fighters but the rest from that era was not in the same league. Dumb ass I was still fighting back in the 90's and 2000's as an amateur and knew the cruserweight division very well since I fought at 201. No wonder you are always having beefs with people on here. I'm fine with someone not agreeing with me but you want to take a tone with me like that and you can talk boxing by yourself. I'm done with you idiot.
