So Eddie Hearn in a recent IFL interview said the April 9th card will be better than the PPV he put on in December, what do you guys think? December 12th - Joshua vs Whyte, Eubank vs Spike, Mitchell vs Barroso, Bellew vs Masternak and Campbell vs Mendy April 9th (rumoured) - Joshua vs Stiverne/Takam/Martin, Degale vs TBA, Selby vs TBA, Macklin vs Rose, Murray vs P.Smith, Groves vs TBA
I enjoyed the Dec 12th card. Just a shame it was ruined by the fact it was unnecessarily a PPV. Can't see half the fighters you've mentioned being on that April 9th card. Groves will continue to try and headline his own shows, Paul Smith is nowhere near ready to take on Murray and DeGale and Selby are US based so I'm not convinced they'll come back unless it was a big fight and even then, would DeGale want to be on Joshua's undercard?
I must admit I can't see the fighters I've said being on the April card but these are the ones Hearn has mentioned whilst hyping up that it will be "better than December 12th" obviously he has to say that to justify it being a PPV We'll know this week, think the card is announced today or tomorrow
Apparantly Selby is out of favour with Haymon or so id heard. So im not suprised to see his name on the card
As much as I grumbled about Dec 12th being PPV, it was one of the most enjoyable cards I'd seen in a long time. Should that sort of thing be decided in hindsight though? Anyway, I'd be surprised if the card is as competitive but we can hope...
Was always a bit of a surprise to take a non-ticket seller who has been known to be in some fairly boring fights as they are often far too one-sided, over to America. More so because the fights that are potentially quite exciting and worth making Haymon seemingly has no intention of doing so.
A card's quality should never be judged in hindsight in my view. If you line up 4/5 genuine 50/50's that split the fans right down the middle and all 4/5 end up in one round blow outs does it mean it was bad match-making? As good as the fights were, not one was for a world title. That's completely unacceptable for a PPV, irrespective of how good the fights turned out to be.
Agreed, I think this is why he'll be desperate to have Degale and selby on there so it's at least 2 world title fights
yeah, I tend to agree. You pay for the fights that are printed at the end of the day; there can be no promise on the eventual quality of the fight
Hasn't hearn already said there will be 2 world title fights on the card? In that case it will almost certainly be degale v mandatory and selby v mandatory. Can see groves and murray both in tune up fights aswell ahead of a summer fight
i agree, however (and possibly this was more luck) the card was as enjoyable as any i've seen and people who payed the money would have got value for the money paid i paid £150 for a ticket and was there and i got damn good value for money IMO
My stab in the dark would be: Anthony Joshua v Stiverne/Takam James DeGale v Jose Uzcategui Lee Selby v Eric Hunter Murray and Groves both in reasonably decent fights to build that up for the summer.
they were £100 seats FV, lower tier block 102, great seats, apparently they were £150 because they came with AMEX lounge access as well :-(
i didn't think it was for 1 huge reason, AJ should be building his fan base even more but fighting on Sky sports before hitting PPV, its very hard now to get him on regular Sky events now hes done PPV i loved what eddie did and toured the country with him keeping him active would have liked another year of that before he went PPV
