    What were the 10 best fights between 1990-1999?

    The question is simply that.

    Interpret "best" however you want, be it historical significance, entertainment value, or whatever.

    This will be the 2nd survey in a 9-part series, that will work downwards to the 1930-1939 period followed by a separate all-time fights survey.

    Scoring will be the same as it was in the Weight Class surveys.

    You just need to provide me with a list, 1-10, chronologically--NO TIES ALLOWED!

    POINT ALLOCATIONS:
    1st place = 25
    2nd = 15
    3rd = 12
    4th = 10
    5th = 8
    6th = 5
    7th = 4
    8th = 3
    9th = 2
    10th = 1

    PLEASE USE FIRST AND LAST NAME FOR BOTH FIGHTERS!!! EVEN IF IT'S OBVIOUS WHAT YOU MEAN!

    It will make things very helpful for me to tabulate without confusion.

    AND PLEASE MAKE SURE THE FIGHTS YOU LIST HAPPENED DURING THE PERIOD IN QUESTION

    For example....

    1. Evander Holyfield vs Riddick Bowe 1
    2. Mike Tyson vs Buster Douglas
    etc.

    That's not necessarily the start of my list, as I need to give this some thought, but just to illustrate on how I'm hoping you'll cooperate to help me along.

    We'll run them each for 30 days or so.

    Ridiculous entries will be subject for exclusion from the official tally.

    ***If anyone has any questions feel free to ask.

    Well I have it narrowed down to 50...and am still trying to whittle it down. Perhaps tommorow, might make this easier!

    Yeah, I'll have to think about this one for a while. Not as fresh in the mind, this lot.

    I'm with you guys. This will take some thought. Off the top of my head, a lot of HW fights jump to mind, like Holy-Bowe 1, Golota-Bowe II, Tyson-Douglas, and Tyson-Holy 1, all of which I'm sure will be on my list. But I need to think about this a bit myself.

    Stuff like Mercer vs cooper as well won't be making my list but are certainly worth mentions as great fights of the 90's....I have eliminated Benn-McClellan, Hamed vs Kelley and a few other of my favorite fights...this is fun yet painful to exclude some matches that I love.

    3 HW fights out of 10...That leaves some great fights in lower weights that will miss the cut.

    I could be mistaken, but I suspect we will see a trend towards HW fights gaining share as we venture backwards.

    Here goes...

    01 Azumah Nelson vs Jeff Fenech I ( 6-28-91 )
    02 Meldrick Taylor vs Julio Cesar Chavez I ( 3-17-90)
    03 Michael Carbajal vs Humberto Gonzalez I ( 3-13-93 )
    04 Ivan Robinson vs Arturo Gatti I ( 8-22-98 )
    05 Chris Eubank vs Nigel Benn I ( 11-18-90 )
    06 Tony The Tiger Lopez vs Jorge Paez ( 9-22-90 )
    07 Evander Holyfield vs Mike Tyson I ( 11-9-96 )
    08 Buster Douglas vs Mike Tyson ( 2-11-90 )
    09 Mike McCallum vs Michael Watson ( 4-14-90 )
    10 Bernard Hopkins vs Glen Johnson ( 7-20-97 )

    This was hard: 1990 (5 votes) 91,93,96,97,98 (1 vote each)

    Heartbreakers: Banke vs Zaragoza II, Hamed vs kelley, Holyfield vs Bowe II, Mercer vs Cooper, Eubank vs watson I & II, Barrera vs McKinney, and to many more to keep typing....Banke vs Zaragoza II round 3 might make my top 10 rounds of the decade, it was hard to let go of that one.

    Hopkins vs Glen Johnson was just a one sided beat down. Any of your extra fights would probably be better. Also Lopez vs Paez at 6 when you don't even include Bowe vs Golota II, Paulie Ayala vs Johnny Tapia, Holyfield vs Bowe 1, Robert Quiroga vs Kid Akeem Anifowoshe, David Tua vs Ike Ibeabuchi, or Merqui Sosa vs Prince Charles Williams?

    Wow...You are very informative Mr. Boxing....Please teach me more! I was not aware that you knew better than I, which fights I feel are the best of the decade. Tua-Ibeabuchi probably does not make my top 10 HW fights, although I am sure that it will be a popular pick...What you call a one sided beat down, I call a clinical master piece over a top notch challenger (ie Chavez vs Rosario)....Better than my number 6 pick...which just happens to be one of the fights that won me back to back boxing after a few year hiatus....*&%$#@ :fire

    Calm down, no disrespect intended. I'm sure you know more about boxing than me. Just after watching those fights, I wasn't blown away and was curious why you chose them. I really expected more heavyweight fights to be on your list too, but like you said you prefer the clinics to the slugfests. That's all I was after. I also figured you might have had some sort of personal reason for your picks, like I had for placing Gatti/Ward I at the top of my 2000-2009 list.

    Oh, most definitely. But I need some time to wittle down my picks, re-watch a few things and watch a handful I haven't seen yet. Right now, I like Holyfield vs Bowe I, Julio Cesar Chavez vs Meldrick Taylor, Evander Holyfield vs Mike Tyson I, David Tua vs Ike Ibeabuchi, Nigel Benn vs Gerald McClellan, Robert Quiroga vs Kid Akeem Anifowoshe, Ivan Robinson vs Arturo Gatti I, Michael Moorer vs Bert Cooper, Marco Antonio Barrera vs Kevin McKinney, Paul Banke vs Daniel Zaragoza II, Bowe vs Golata II, Paulie Ayala vs Johnny Tapia, Chris Eubank vs Michael Watson II, though I don't have any order to that yet.

    You and Rumsfeld have both mentioned this fight....I have always prefered the second fight over the first...be interesting to see which ones gain support.
