I do think you're being harsh on Warrington there. Selby was poor in their fight but JW showed improved ringcraft and no little ability himself and whilst I agree about Frampton's greater ability and status, he's also potentially a notch down from his peak whilst Warrington is getting stronger. If it fulfills potential it could be a great fight.
The question was never asked. All I said is I don’t think it’s PPV. Should they fight each other why not? Warrington isn’t the strongest so quick PPV and cash out is understandable. I also wouldn’t blame him for a few easy defences before a unification or a tough mandatory but obviously the Frampton fight is guaranteed money on the table right now.
There's been some decent build up to Warrington vs Frampton from a 'casual' viewpoint - Warrington was on the Chris Moyles show yesterday. I think he gets a bout 1 million listeners so it's not bad promotion. You have to remember a lot of the Irish will be buying for Frampton as well.
I pick and choose what PPV's to buy. I bought Usyk/Bellew and wasn't disappointed. I've no issue paying for quality world championship fights with one or two elite fighters involved. (One in Usyk/Bellew fight) While I'd like to see Whyte/Chisora, there's no way I'd pay twenty pounds to do so. That's insane. They're two game lads but their skill level is average at best. The card isn't exactly stacked. I'll be buying Warrington/Frampton though. For some reason Warrington isn't rated. He's a legitimate world champion and a problem for anyone. Frampton is an elite fighter who despite what some say, remains at the top of his game. It's a great fight, I've no doubt about that. The undercard for Warrington/Frampton looks good to me. They're all fights I'd like to see so I think overall it's good value for money in today's market. The prices of the PPV's on the 22nd will be interesting. Sky seem set with their £20 fee now. A ridiculous price for Whyte/Chisora. I guess Warrington/Frampton will be £16.
People keep saying 'it's not a PPV fight' and that makes me wonder. Why is any fight PPV or not? Football may be a useful comparison here. Imagine if every match was PPV. Without question Leeds v Aston Villa would comfortably outsell Bournemouth v Huddersfield. But one is top flight and the other isn't. Does that matter? In boxing, should PPV just be about high quality boxing over entertainment?
There's clearly no set criteria. Eddie puts on anything that sells. He wants to make McGregor/Malinaggi. And who's to say he shouldn't if it makes millions of pounds/dollars? However, I have my own criteria. I won't buy a PPV unless there's an elite fighter on it. That's my own personal choice. Whatever anyone else wants to do, it's their own business.
I think that's entirely fair enough and I agree. I think the issue I have is when people say fight A isn't PPV and it does massive numbers and earns everyone a fortune. Surely therefore it is PPV?!
The discussion isn't whether it's ppv worthy, it's obviously not but most fights aren't. I thought you were being harsh saying its a mismatch. The fighters are the exact same price as Whyte and Chisora and no one is saying that's a mismatch
Whyte and Chisora are probably 7/10 and 6/10 ability wise. Frampton is 9.5 and Warrington 6/10 in my opinion.
Warrington is an excellent little fighter. People still talking like he is just all fitness and workrate? He has good boxing ability and ring IQ.
