Hi I live in Europe and 2 fights fell through for me recently which would have been only my 2nd & 3rd match up's. I know the temptation to stuff my self over the Xmas holidays will outweigh my motivation to eat halthily.
So my question is not about how to avoid temptation - but if anyone has any tips for damage limitation. I'm Irish and as you guessed - yes I'm a drinker too. I will try to swap the guiness for glasses of red wine but if you know anything about Irish people you will know we are not tea totalers. But I guess some runing in the snow and swims in the evening as much as possible will help. thoughts comments? Anyone else struggle this time of year?

I always have trouble with the temptations of the holidays. Beer with my dad, cookies, food. mmmmm...

Try to keep working out daily, despite the other holiday festivities. Your damage mitigation will be that despite eating poorly and drinking a bit, you will still be in shape. Your body will consume more of the calories that way. You might gain a bit or slow down, but it won't be as bad as if you stopped training all together.

Then a long, brisk hike is in order.

Hi Canelo, unfortunately I just agreed to a fight with 4 days notice. I took the other poster advise though and went back training on Friday.
I am not fight fit but I will hopefully get away with a bit of counter punching. It's not professional boxing thank god!!!

First off, the Irish and drinking thing is a cop out. I'm Italian, but it doesn't mean I can't avoid eating pasta and pizza all the time lol. But I guess it's really going to come down to will-power. I think it's tough for most people around the holidays, so you're not alone. Especially when you're sitting around a table of family members giving you awkward looks and asking why you're barely eating (since it's not the healthiest of food).

Basically what I'm doing this month is being super disciplined with my diet, that way when the few days surrounding christmas hits, I won't feel as bad when I'm eating like crap because I'll feel like I've earned some room for error in my diet.

    ^^

    Agreed.

I'd just train really hard a few days before and a few days after xmas, and just enjoy the period inbetween mate.

I don't see why people make a big deal about what they eat at christmas. A few days of eating more food isn't going to put on a huge amount of weight. I bet the most you'd put on in fat is about 5 pounds, but I doubt anyone here would put on anywhere near that much. Even if they did, 5 pounds is not difficult to get rid of.

quick update - my fight got called off but I havent put on too much weight. I had some chocolate but I have been avoiding the drink. We had terrible snow here which meant it was hard for me to get up to the shops so I had a couple of take aways but I've only put on maybe 2 lbs. I have been in the gym though. I think some great advice here - really agree with those of you who say its ok to be a little bit bad with food as longas you keep working out... I hope it stay this way anyway.

My advice for xmas, as well as in general, is to avoid mediocre things. Take chocolate for example. If you're going to eat something bad for you, why waste that on a shitty kit kat?

Just pick the foods you really like and eat those, and pass on the stuff that's just filler, like bread rolls or whatever.

My coworkers give me **** all the time, we have a monthly party where we have pizza and cheesecake. I'll take the topping off the pizza and leave the bread, yet I'll eat a bunch of cheesecake.

When they asked me why, they were expecting some kind of scientific answer, and all I told them was that crust is boring and that cheesecake is awesome.

I got a fight in Jan so I have to keep training hard, dont need to worry about my weight though so I can eat as much as I like! Eat hard, train hard.

My boxing sessions have finished for the holidays but the gym is still open, I've travelled 20 miles every day this week just to get there.
