He was effective when he had the refs in his pocket due to his political connections. He's one of the worst heavyweight strap holders I've ever seen.
When did he have refs in his pocket? What political connections? Ruiz does have a decent resume with - - Holyfield - Rahman - Golota - Johnson - Oquendo
Orzoubek Nazarov Guillermo Jones Reggie Johnson Jose Luis Lopez Orlando Canizales Vince Philips Junior Jones Laurent Boudouani Virgil Hill
Watch the Holyfield, Johnson and Thunder fights again and get back to me. He was tied to Don King. That's why he got so many title shots after ugly, cheating performances.
Austin was overshadowed by Rafael Marquez who also seems to be a forgotten champ. Zack Padilla is another Champ I've never heard(seen) anyone mention around here.
This is probably a little outside the criteria, in terms of timing and also accomplishments, but I always enjoyed watching Jorge Paez fights
juan laporte fought a whos who of fighters a lot in there back yard. all time fighter not in the top 1000 all time chins IMO top 5 of all time never mentionede when great chins comes around but he was never floored amatuer or pro / never saw him hurt or staggered and he was a face first fighter who fought absolutley everyone.
Vernon Forrest? Arguably the p4p king for a spell, yet his name rarely pops up even during relatively detailed conversations about his welterweight era.
Maybe its just me but Sergio Martinez feels like an after thought so soon after he was one of the most exciting guys in boxing. I guess thats down to the sour note he rode out on.
Oh ffs, when was Forrest ever in position to be argued as "the p4p king". You sure love you some hyperbole
I have watched them. He was hit low by Johnson Still do you have any evidence to suggest there was wrong doing?
