I always felt Martinez was possibly past his best before he got his title shot. I dont think he was known to American fans for years of his career but he was known in the UK for his fights with Williams and Stone
I'm waiting for Butt to come back and tell us how it can be argued that Mayorga was "PFP king" for a while.
Have you purposely ignored his wrestling tactics and own low blow on Johnson which initiated Johnson's responses? Cortez reffed that fight. It reminds me of the **** job Cortez did in the Calzaghe Hopkins fight when he allowed Hopkins to cheat and spoil throughout. Have you watched the Holyfield 'loss' to Ruiz? Have you watched the Thunder fight?
he drew with nelson in 93 beat him in 94 lost to him in 96 beat him again in 98 yes its on the far side of 20 years, but i still think hes got some great wins in that time frame.
So because a boxer wrestles a bit, you think they have agreed help? I admit that I have thought that Cortez as a ref has been inconsistent but to imply he was involved in any conspiracy seems unfair without any proof. So do you have anything to back up your claims other than just your opinion? Do you have the same opinions with how M Vann often reffed Hattons fights and how often Hatton was in Manchester and was a mauling fighter, or Ward as a mauling fighter in Oakland seems to be able to get away with alot?
"Wrestles a bit," lol. You're kidding, right? However, I don't have any empirical proof, but I have my eyes and ears. Its not just the mauling, wrestling tactics. It's the faked low blows, the dubious decisions in the ring, court decisions going in his direction. Lennox Lennox gets stripped and Ruiz gets a shot. Funny part is, Ruiz blamed the ref for not letting him 'fight his fight' (mma style lol) when he lost to chinny, natural middleweight Roy Jones. Talk about hypocrisy. Btw Ricky Hatton got away with murder in Manchester when he fought Tszyu. Dave Parriss put on a clinic on how to be corrupt, biased and incompetent as he let Ricky do whatever he wanted. And it certainly wasn't pretty.
He was listed in the p4p Top 10 after beating Forrest. Forrest never reached number one, but was listed in the top 5 or so after beating Mosley twice. And in both cases, that would be reasonable. There have been a number of instances where fighters have entered the p4p rankings on the basis of one big win.
