http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/2008/sep/02/boxing?gusrc=rss&feed=sport Its bull**** he had to put Khan on PPV, If Setanta can outbid sky for Calzaghe, Haye and Hatton then they can for Khan.
If Hatton was still in his stable and Joe etc his interview wouldn't be half as objective as it is. Warren is nothing more than a bitter salesman who`s run out of wares to sell.
If you read back through his 'Frankly Speaking' on his own website - one minute he is blowing smoke up Hatton's ass for beating Tszyu, Ricky will be a world beater etc etc Next he has never beaten a decent opponent, is disloyal, greedy, selfish etc etc My actual stance is somewhere in between - though the greedyness has come through in recent weeks!
Warren backs whatever is SN. If its not SN its not right. Havened you noticed how his scathing attacks on Audley have diminished now that Audley has been working closer with him..
I love that half of Donald Mcrae's "Big Interviews" are boxing related. Summary: - Khan had to be on PPV or he couldn't have got Khan the money he wanted. - Billy Joe Saunders has approached him and he's interested in signing him as a pro. - I made Naz, Ricky and Joe and then they left me and they've never been as good since :|
Ricky would be 49-0 had he stayed with Warren. But...... He would never have topped the bill in Vegas He would have never fought Mayweather He would have never actually fought outside of Manchester
He's blaming Khan for this PPV but what would Khans options have been if Warren has of tabled a non-PPV based offer when they were drawing the contract up a few months ago?
warrens just a bitter old selfish sh1t, only looking out for himself. if khan was too leave him automatically khan would be a no hope
Its not the first time I've read the suggestion that Warren paid a high price to retain Khan when re-negotiating their promotional deal and this has resulted in going PPV. Could well backfire - especially if they don't achieve the 250,000 buys needed....
I still don't see how his only option was to put it on PPV. Sky can afford at least what ITV were paying without having to put it on PPV. It must be that Warren wanted a lot more than he was being paid by ITV who, when it became apparent that Khan would be fighting very weak opponents for a long time yet, probably had in mind that Khan was worth a lot less.
The Khan's knew they were in a winning position with Warren once Calzaghe left Sports Network. They knew Amir is now the only Warren fighter any broadcaster was interested in ... Enzo Macc, Alex, Mitchell, etc aren't going to drive subscriptions on Setanta or Sky, or advertisers on ITV. So the Khan's obviously told Frank they'd sign for him again but only for a very large amount of money ... and Frank had no option as he would otherwise have been left with no where to go. With his fall out with ITV, Setanta putting their money iin to Haye and Calzaghe (obviously to the delight of Frank) Sky PPV was probably the only place left to go to get the money he is/was after.
Thats a very good point. Im pretty sure Khan would is aware of his worth to SN aswell as hard bargaining for his new deal. I have a feeling this one will backfire badly though. As Khan simply isnt PPV material.
He states in there he wanted Joe to fight Kelly as well... " I wanted Joe to fight [the world's best middleweight] Kelly Pavlik instead. "Joe would have been too big for Pavlik and it would have meant so much more than beating Jones. Calzaghe and Pavlik are two pin-ups and undefeated world champions. Jones has lost three of his last six fights. Joe would also have made more money against Pavlik, who would have taken the short end of the purse. But, yeah, it's very disappointing. Joe was undefeated as a world champion of 11 years - and that's a real legacy."
