The interviewer asks some good questions like why are Cleverly and Broadhurst fighting Afrobums, why are the FFN undercards poor? http://www.boxingnewsonline.net/BN08/detail.asp?id=1179
Nice. He talks sense as far as TV. It's a major problem, much more so than "replacing" Calzaghe or Hatton. The fighters are there.
Fair do's to him. Thats a pretty solid interview, esp, building up propects on terrestrial TV to build an interest in them (and boxing generally).
Brilliant interview- it's good to see someone putting questions to him that we'd actually like to read the answers to compared to the same ones we hear all the time. Thanks for posting.
He is bang on about the BBC. It is a disgrace that boxing fans (who pay their license money like everyone else) do not get any pro boxing and soon there will be no amateur boxing.
I almost got confused that I was interviewing him myself as I read the question about Afrobums Sorry if its racist...but they truely suck. They might be 12 rounders Warren, but every ****er knows they ain't going 6 in Cleverly's case. I'm glad he's fighting Brits now. It's more understandable for Broadhurst as the division sucks domestically, but there must be some decent European opposition out there.
If you also have a look on the BN site there is also a good interview with Roach. http://www.boxingnewsonline.net/BN08/detail.asp?id=1177
i decided to write a complaint to the bbc cause of warrens letter lol it goes like this.... didnt have alot of time to do it whilst it work but its better voicing my opinion than being quiet "I’m writing today to express my disgust that boxing is no longer shown on the BBC. I never in my life have complained about anything but find it an absolute disgrace that one of Britain’s most prestigious sports in no longer shown. How can a sport that help’s so many troubled kids; stay of the streets, learn discipline, earn self-respect not be shown Boxing not only gets these kids of the streets that would usually; be bored and sit at home on there computers, cause trouble in their local area’s, taking there frustration out on someone else instead of a bag… but gives them a lesson in life. That if you work hard and have motivation you can reach the top no matter where you start out. You only have to look at role models of recent years like living day legend Manny Pacquiao (who couldn’t even afford a meal at the age of 16, but now he’s the best in the world and has already given over £30 million of his fortune away) to see how important and influential boxing is and can be. But instead of showing these heroic figures/warriors you decide to shun them and blame violence on other things like video games and drugs. Yet if you shown boxing on bbc you would show the whole of Great Britain that they don’t have to sit at home and be bored and feel like they can never get anywhere in life, but instead they can be like Pacquiao, Duran who came from humble beginnings and become the best in the world and never forgot about the poor and still give money to them. Boxers like Evander Holyfield when fighting Sammy Retta, raised money for HIV/Aids and Jones vs Trinidad raised money for Breast Cancer Foundation. Surely these are the examples you want Britain to follow rather than finding excuses why things are not working? "
Good one, I think, boxing fans need to get onto the BBC to get us some live boxing on the Beeb, especially as we will be losing the Hennessey fights on ITV4.
Yeah he was quite critical of Sky, he makes a good point though, Saturday night is the best night for top boxing bills.
