A boxing beginner i'm associated with doesn't feel comfortable in the orthodox stance, although she's a right hander. Shortly after she will start shadow boxing or pad work, she would automatically switch to the southpaw stance, but her coach keeps on telling her to fight in the orthodox stance. What would you do in her stead?

I would follow my intuition. If it feels more comfortable in southpaw, why not? If the coach does not understand it, dump him. Angelo Dundee, Ali coach, would not break his fighter's technique as long as it works.

yup, stay with what your comfortable with. Afterall, she has just started and there is really no right or wrong between choosing southpaw/orthodox
