I've never stepped inside a boxing ring and never intend to, however I do enjoy doing a bit of shadow boxing. All I do is offense, single shots and combinations. I would like to add more variety just to make things more interesting, but I have no idea of defensive moves. I know there are different techniques, but what would be the textbook defensive moves for: Head + Body Jab - Left Hook - Left Uppercut - Right Cross - Right Hook - Right Uppercut - Overhand right - Obviously I have asked for a lot of information so if you can't be bothered answering all of it, just answer a few.:good
Jab - head: slip, parry, catch it, step back Body: deflect it with elbow, step back Left Hook - head: roll, block, lean back body: block with elbow Left Uppercut - Head: slip it, put glove in the way Body: block with elbow Right Cross - Head: Same as jab + roll Body: same as jab Right Hook - same as left hook Right Uppercut - same as left uppercut Overhand right - head: slip it
Keep your hands up :yep Sorry, wee GPater has has fired ya some i see. If its a bar brawl just be first and keep sending them :nut
Shadow box in a mirror, you will be able to see where your weaknesses are in defense. then you will have to find out the best technique for yourself, if you leave your hand down when you hook, you will have to work on defending your chin, if you are fast bringing your hand up your body might be a target, the more you shadow box the more punches you will be able to pick out against yourself.
:deal Also when you throw a shot, try bring it back to your chin just as quickly. Snappy, obviously not full reach or ya elbows be farkd. Full reach shadow, try in more of a fluid slow motion, a ryhthm ( spell check ) Try also when pivoting for example to hold your shots till your in position/balanced .eg no winging hooks as you spin/turn. Sure, fighters do this and it works, i was shown to learn to pivot first rather than getting into bad habits ala half off balance when beginning Keep your chin in :good
:rofl "its the taking part that counts eh" My mate glassed HIMSELF on the head once....work that one out :nut
No dont do this Joe, before you know it your joints will be ****ed. Think of it this way, what is taking the impact of your punches if they are full power and extension ? Nothing, no bag, no pads to absorb. They may feel ok at the moment, give it time and they will be burning. Been there myself when i started off. Over excited i will call it.
