Your splitting hairs here, but for the record I am a movie geek as well, it would have been a far more appropriate analogy, if say The Thin Red Line had won, the hyper poetic comtemplative ethereal meditation on the senselessness of war and the haunting effects it has on the emotional state of the soldiers, But it didn't win so I couldn't use it.

The Last Emperor from Bernanrdo Bertolucci beating Fatal Attraction and Moonstruck does that make you happy, now find more than a handful of people on this site who has actually heard of the Last Emperor.

Shakespeare in Love is far snobbier than Private Ryan and it is a reference most people may actually recognize, oh wait your acting like a snob you just proved my point. By the way 63 percent of its US gross came after the nomination and win, like most films nominated for best picture.

I understand the sweet science, I enjoy watching some "boring" fighters that I listed, but I'm making a broad generalization about the obnoxious way their fans act towards casual fans who don't care for that style. They are in the majority and the know it alls are in the minority, and most of you act really bitchy when it comes to fans who like blood and guts.

Bull & Matador matchups can also be incredibly boring affairs. Crawford vs. Klimov and Vasquez vs. Shafikov come to mind.

No one would pick Floyd vs. Hatton over Pacquiao vs. Morales1 on their greatest match list.

the worst are the ones who gtalk at length about fighters who fought so long ago that theres barely any(if any ) footage of, and then say how they would destroy(insert name of modern boxer).

lol, all wrong, from start to finish. False assumptions and over dramatization to end it with, as though we are all unaware.

Like with anything in life, a good balance is key. I don't like watching fights which is all brawl and 0 skill, there is no mastery to it and its just 2 guys blessed with good chins and power. On the other hand I also don't like watching pure skill and no savagery, I came to watch a fight not golf. That's why guys like SRR, Duran, SRL, Pac, Tyson, Ali are all extremely popular inside the ring, they demonstrate savagery with skill.

Sweet science guys who brag about the art of running while laughing a brawling fans dont realise they are as bad as each other, extremists on the opposite end of the spectrum.

Everyone likes what they like no problem with who likes what, etc, But the arguement there about lara vs canelo and people calling that the sweet science, come on if it was such a great display of the sweet science why did the guy lose. He was just moving awat from canelo while that is happening nobody is winning accept caenlo because hes taking up the terriotory in the ring, and you cant say a guy not throwing punches is the definition of the sport. Somebody also said that guys that fight in the pocket dont have the talent to move, maybe thats right but other guys dont have the talent to stay in the pocket so nobodys better than the other because of styles until they fight.
And floyd stays in the pocket a lot so does rigo, and micky ward used to run at times

I think what's bad is when people who claim to be fans of the sport can't understand why a fighter with a slick style can actually be more effective than a pure brawler. And many label fighters "boring", "cowards", and "runners" simply because they are mindful of defense...while labeling fighters who take a load of punishment "warriors." If the only way to win a fight was to stand in the middle of the ring and trade punches, then everyone would be doing it.

Exactly, yet you look at that list and fail to realize what it tells you...it is far easier to be and do what a pure boxer does. Even with less fighters practicing nothing but the pure form of sweet science they tend to have greater success when it comes to being recognized amongst the best. When it is only due to them beating the big name sluggers of their time because their style is made to do exactly that by using their own aggression them to win the rounds.

It goes to show what the slugger is trying to do is more difficult than what the purist is trying to do yet the purists are consistently recognized as the better fighters. People are always trying to give them rounds in fights they don't deserve calling many of their losses robberies, stating that this fighter or that was "boxing the other's ears off" believing that somehow just because a boxer is using nothing but ring "intellect" he must have won the round.

This comes from boxers being overly praised as the more gifted, athletic, and smarter of the two which is not close to the truth, you have to be far smarter, and equally gifted and athletic to even come close to consistently doing what the best sluggers do because what are they are trying to do is far more difficult. Yet the purists are praised as gifted and genius's...it is backwards and doesn't make sense to me.

You're right, that is the easiest way to pretend to have superior knowledge.
