We all know defense is the most important thing in the sport of boxing, and it's not even close. It is by far the hardest thing to do in the squared circle and nothing comes close. It seems like judges today really dksab, they don't factor in defense at all. We saw Pep winning a round vs Jackie Graves in 1946 without landing a single punch, we need to see more of that. Defense is the king.
That Willie Pep fight was almost a 100 years ago, and people didn't win fights with defense back then, either. That was the point. Pep said I can win a round without throwing punches, because you usually had to PUNCH in order to win a round back then. It wasn't like defense was king back then and people won rounds all the time NOT throwing punches. You seem to have missed the entire point.
The evidence for that Pep story isn't that great anyway. Entirely possible that it didn't happen at all.
Actually I believe Willie Pep said that wasn't quite true he did land punches. Willie could also fight if need be. Unlike a certain self professed greatest of all time who is bombarding the internet with his claim "No one can beat me, I'm invincible " Wonder who showed him how to spell that big word ? LOL
