along with roy jones who are some great defensive fighters because i have concentrated alot on working on my offense and now my defense needs alot of work.

Roy jones is probably not the best to study for defense. His defense was highly unorthodox, and he was only able to get away with it because of his speed and his sharp reflexes.

winky is an odd one, his forearms are so long he can gaurd head and body same time...
for me the best fighter to watch defensively is james toney, rarely did he get hit flush, very clever use of the shoulder etc...

james toney is the best to study, he isn't exactly very fit, so if he can pull of some of those moves then so can most of us.

This is the reason i study him haha, but on the flipside, its not the hardest to pull a good shoulder roll, but being as relaxed as him helps counter out of the shoulder roll.. I've been trying to uppercut out of the roll, i have had the cross down for a while, but the uppercut is a little tougher of a counter to land square..

Also try watching Ricardo Lopez, wasnt a defensive fighter, but balanced out, and great at basics..

Or Juan Manuel Marquez, both good at pulling counters, and have pretty basic styles, out of the same gym i believe...

    (Thanks Pea)

bernard hopkins, sweat pea whitaker, sugar ray leonard, old james toney, floyd mayweather<<<<<<his style is somewhat hard to follow for his defense, sorta risky. my main bets for somebody to study is bernard hopkins n sweat pea. both of their styles is that their defense IS their offense. it all bases from the defense, so check out some of their moves and incorporate it. the main thing w/ mayweather and toney is their shoulder roll, which u will c hopkins also do, just not in the detroit style (left hand down w/ shoulder covering their chin and right hand up). hope i could help

    Wow, we agree

I copied a lot of Toney's moves, watching his fights is my number one inspiration. A defensive genious.

Bernard Hopkins... Very textbook and basic. So is Juan Manuel Marquez.
