    Hi guys,

I keep on reading about people doing drills till slipping etc comes naturally to them in sparring. now ive trained in quite afew gyms in the uk and in none of them have we practised drills repeatedly till they came second nature.

could some of you describe defensive drills you do or post any videos of them.

any ideas to practise defensive skills on your own would be great too.

    thanks

Have someone stand opposite you inside range. Get him to keep popping his jab out (in a non rythmic manner) and practice slipping.

Yup. Then do it with other punches. Then when that gets comfortable, have him throw two punches and you have to block or avoid both, then three punches etc

Facing one another, you both throw a jab to the persons left shoulder in tandem and of course the same with the straight right to right shoulder...( touching not punching )

Each time you take turns calling 4 or 5 or 10 or 2 etc if this makes sense.

same applys regarding bodywork, blocking each other at the same time and calling the number of shots also.

This was done for 2 mins non stop for a cpl of rounds, just to get warmed up after skipping if i remember correctly.

I guess it helped with movement, concentration and range and well, fluidity ?

The best defensive technique i was ever shown was to spin on the spot until you were ready to fall over then start shadowing, similar to being nearly out on your feet after taking one flush.

    Helps practise recovery.

    Just ma 2p.

    1. Lean up against the ropes and have someone throw controlled punches at you while you block and try not to blink.

    2. Have a noob try to hit you while you defend only

    3. When shadowboxing cover up after each combo. It becomes automatic and it really helps.
