That's what you're doing, not me. I mentioned him once in the thread. :hi: This thread is about the inequity of defensive fighters vs offensive fighters in the sport of boxing.
I watch figure skating during the olympics from time to time, it's brilliant. :deal But that's besides the point. You simply don't understand the sweet science. The angles/the slipping/the rolling/the defense. It's all so great. Maybe you should try to watch it from a purist standpoint. Maybe then you'll start appreciating it a bit more.
We agree on something I love figure skating too, tight little bodies of 18 year old Russian girls :hey I understand art films, in fact I like quite a few of them, but I happen to prefer watching Conan The Barbarian the Arnold version. Same goes for boxing.
Well if u want to be serious I'll give you a serious response. Boxers in the turn of the century relied even less on defense than now. Let's face it most guys now spend 80 percent of training getting in shape. The other 20 is devoted to a gameplan. That's not enough to fine tune offense and defense in a seamless balance. When boxing started getting more technical over time, a bunch of guys refined and crafted the subtleties of the sport. It with a mix of offense and defense and not just using one blindly.
I'm not entirely sure you actually understand the sweet science, that's why you don't appreciate it. You talk down on these fighters on the daily because of your ignorance it seems. That's just how I see it. You don't understand the brilliance of what those men are doing in the squared circle.
I understand it I just don't want to waste my time watching it. You're ignorant to the beauty of sheer unbridled savage brutality, or maybe you're not manly enough to appreciate it.
I like aggressive fighters, but I also appreciate the fine arts of defense. That's the difference between us. You despise defense in the sport of boxing. Maybe it's not for you. Why not watch brawling?
They are punching, but they're more emphasized on effective punching, pot shotting etc. They don't leave themselves vulnerable and that's why it's so brilliant. If you can't accept that, go watch some bar fighting. :deal
Not the same thing as what guys used to do. Two evenly skilled guys would work each other utilizing their boxing skills and it would be back and forth as both guys look to land hard shots in combination or counters. Pot shot ting is no where near the same thing. Guys are trying to hard not to get hit and that is what makes unappealing. Vice versa, there are punches who don't know how to utilize skills in order to get knockouts. There is a reason why Golovkin makes it look easy. He relies on craft to get big shots in.
Defense today is arguably more advanced than defense of the past, that's why defensive fighters today are so effective in their craft. Yes, they do minimize offense slightly but that's the tradeoff that has to be made especially if you're not a big puncher or athletic enough.
