WTF!? Pea was better defensively, and much much better offensively! http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showthread.php?t=344861 Check the videos out, particularly the last 1
We all know legends/retired fighters are always rated higher than they were when active, so for Floyd to make this poll almost 50/50 says something. Pernell was more attractive to watch and made boxers look sill at times whereas Floyd effectively does his thing whilst being in a better position to counter than Pernell.
Sweetpea. Better defense, heavier hands, better finisher. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rw1t2yAK_wU[/ame]
This is absolutely false. Whitaker had brilliant movement, was a better inside fighter than Mayweather, had superior defensive skills, was one of boxing's great counter punchers, had a better body attack, a much higher workrate, a better jab, and was superior in a chess-match fight from distance. Not to mention he fought a higher level of opposition throughout his career and consistently threw a wider variety of punches and combinations throughout most of his fights. Mayweather only has him on footspeed, handspeed, and balance. Again, your post is ridiculously incorrect. I can't stress that enough.
Refuse to vote. Both are great. Overall, Floyd's probably a better fighter. Hopefully he can stay off the drugs. Jeez, can you imagine Floyd on drugs?
Forgot about power (Whitaker did have some nice knockdowns and stoppages too - Nazario, Lomeli, etc), but ring IQ? If anything, you could make the argument that they're equal. But Mayweather is not Whitaker's superior in terms of ring IQ. Whitaker could change tactics and adapt, give his opponents angles and movement, take the fight to opponents if necessary, knew distance every bit as good as Mayweather, figure out an opponent's timing and mistakes, and proved it against a better crop of fighters than Mayweather has so far. Mayweather has an exceptional boxing brain, no doubt, but I do not see him as better than Mayweather in that area. Sure Whitaker clowned around at times (because most of the time, he was just that far ahead of the guy standing across the ring from him) and like I previously stated, his balance was iffy and he'd cross his feet, but in terms of tactics and whatnot, he was pretty brilliant from everything I've seen.
He is superior in ring IQ. Pea clowned around far too often which is not being smart in the ring no matter how much you spin it. For example he clowned too much against Oscar IMO and it cost him. Being serious in the ring and not clowing around is part of ring IQ. I'm not taking anything away from Pea I have him as the best fighter in boxing from 1990 to today but the fact is PBF was better in some areas than Pea was and ring IQ ws one of them.
I like Floyd's..I think his defense is more versatile..Pernell made u miss...Floyd makes u miss and uses his body to block shots.
I've seen his whole career. You're not talking to some boxing novice here. I rate Pea higher than I do PBF. What are you talking about?
