My defense is pretty weak and im looking to improve it. Can anyone tell me who are some good defensive southpaws that i can maybe watch on youtube and pick up some tips from.

    Thanks guys

The obvious choice is Winky - defensive master.

Another is Sweet Pea, but not many people have the physical capabilities that he had, so it's best not to try to emulate him.

Perhaps not so obvious would be Casamayor - very 'crafty' fighter.

Winky Wright- Brilliant defence with his gloves

Sweet Pea- Has good movement head and feet difficult to copy and quite dangerous

Casamoyer as Bodi says crafty as hell

Hagler - hardly ever got hit with a jab

when you watch sweet pea look at his jab. its not particularly good by itself but when he faces bull rushing fighters he racks up points with it.

Don't try to emulate, most of these defensive techniques are bad for other fighters. Like raushee warrens, most fighters wouldn't dare to have their hands that low, but it works for HIM. get what I'm saying?

The best thing to do is, get a partner go in the ring, let him throw light but quick shots and try blocking them, work your head movement too

i agree with paloalto00; however you could take little things that they do. for instance, you could look at their footwork and see how they like to plant their feet and ways that they keep their feet on the outside of their opponents or you could see how whitaker uses his jab like i was saying earlier.

Of course you could do that, I just wouldn't recommend trying to mimic their specific technique. But if it's like how he sets his feet and works his jab, then of course that would be good
