James Toney. Duran while not being a defensive fighter had one of the best defenses ever and he was a serious puncher dont know if he qualifies cause he wasnt a defensive minded fighter if he does then maybe a guy like Tyson does too.
only from what ihave read on him, i'll guess elbows mc fadden.....he started the crossarm defence that archie moore / foreman / norton used...and he had power, first man to knock out joe gans
Floyd at 130. Jones Jr. Wlad is a good call. The Tai guy that Flea showed certainly qualifies. Not sure what to make of Pea's power.
klitschko brothers, james toney, and RJJ come to mind. its kind of hard to be a big puncher AND defensive minded at the same time. because being a smooth operator or a hellacious KO specialist require unique mindsets.
Floyd had solid power at 130, more hurting fighters with accuracy and placement still, though. Hardly ever "top end".I'm not sure i'd say 130\135 Mayweather hit any harder than the likes of Buchanan and Happy Lora. archie Moore might be one of the closest here, but he was hurt and dropped so many times it makes me reluctant to mention him.Definitely an excellent punch slipper and trap setter with great power though. I think there are fighters who were great(or close to it) both offensively and defensively at certain points in their careers. That's not quite the same thing though.
Flea I didn't have time to watch that **** so here's Joe Gans parrying a punch while simultaneously delivering the knockout blow. At 8:20. [ame]http://youtube.com/watch?v=ML5WLvrc0P8[/ame]
Could Benny Leonard qualify? He was a terrific 'defensive wizard', as far as punching power, he wasn't a one punch k.o. artist, but many opponents said they were surprised by his power. More of a stinging, sharp hitter, but could finish a fight if he had an opponent hurt.
